Harry Potter, The Boy Who Cringed

Samantha hadn't heard the gossip going round and round the school about herself and Potter. This was mainly because no one ever bothered to tell her anything. But she wasn't an idiot. She knew something was going on and if no one else was going to bring her into it she decided she would get into it herself.

Taking a seat next to her dorm mates she carefully dished some tomato soup into the bowl in front of her.

"Well, this lunch looks lovely. The house elves really outdid themselves this time. I mean the base of the soup is just marvelous. Have you lot any idea about a rumor about Potter and I? The rolls are great too." 

She continued to sip at the steamy liquid in front of her as her friends froze for a moment.

"You mean... you haven't heard?"

"Well no one tells jack shi-"

"You know how Potter broke up with his girl?"

"Potter and Lovegood broke up?"

"Oh they were never together in the first place. Apparently that  was entirely platonic. No he was with Ginny Weasley and broke it off with her."

"Oh."

"Yeah, anyways-"

At that her other friend jumped in, "Anyways apparently he told Ron and 'Mione that he like someone else and that it wasn't fair to either girls if he continued with Ginny and his relationship."

"So do we know who he likes?"

The girls paused for a moment, looking between each other uneasily.

"Come on then spit it out. If you don't I'll go ask him myself." 

As she went to stand and leave their hands immediately leapt out and grappled her back into her seat. 

"Sammi you can't do that. He likes you."

She snorted loudly as her own hand flashed to her mouth as she tried to cover her mouth.

"Don't be ridiculous of course he doesn't like me. I mean... I'm just me."

"Samantha Ward!!! Don't you dare talk about yourself like that!!! You have to be delirious if you're going on like that, maybe we should take you to Pomfrey."

A voice jolted them out of their conversation behind them, "Pomfrey? Why would she need to go to Pomfrey? Is she alright? Are you alright?"

Samantha turned around in her seat to eye a now shuffling Harry Potter.

"Harry what on earth are you doing by the Hufflepuff table? It's on the complete opposite side of the hall as the Gryffindor table."

"Well I was wondering if you'd like to walk to class together..."

She looked at him for a moment before turning her back on him again and responding.

"Well I haven't even started breakfast yet so if you're walking me you might as well sit and wait. Have you had your breakfast yet?"

He sat next to her with a beet red face and shook his head slightly.

"Well that's no good. Livvy. Pass another plate would ya?"

Her friend let out a slight huff of laughter and passed one slowly. 

"Potter, just so you know, if you break her we're getting retribution."

He looked sharply up and the group of shark-like-girls and nodded slowly.

"You don't have to worry, I'm not planning on breaking your girl."
