Dream

To dream is to live. That is what they say. They also tell you to chase your dreams. But how can you change your dreams, when society won't let you? When society deems you as crazy? They tell you to chase your dreams. Ha. They don't really want you to. They just want to put you into their perfect little boxes and force you to integrate into society, to be normal. Ew. This is what she thought.

Her dream was to escape into her fantasies, to explore the great wilderness, and do as she pleased. She wanted to do everything for herself and become close friends with nature, because maybe this would satisfy the monster growing inside her. But society crushed her dreams. Society destroyed the wilderness and society trapped her. She could not escape. The only hope she had was the voices in her head telling her to be patient; telling her that someone would come and take her away and that she must prepare herself. But still, she was not sure. Where would this being take her? Is this being really going to come? Have I just gone absolutely bonkers? No, it told her. Stay strong. So she did.

But the monster continued to take over, no matter how hard she fought, little by little, it took over. It took so long, she didn't even realize it was happening until one day, she found herself covered in blood, flesh hanging out of her mouth, and some random stranger laying, dead, in her lap. She was eating this innocent person and giggling as if this was the funniest thing ever. That when it turned up.

"Heh, don't you think you came a little late?" She asked the silhouette. Even though she couldn't see the being, she knew it was the one who had come for her. The voices told her.

"No, child, I came right on time." It stepped into the light, but she still could not recognize it for tears were pooling in her eyes and her mind was fuzzy. Suddenly, all she could smell was blood and all she could see was red and all she could taste was human flesh and all she could feel was human innards. And she loved it.

"YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO COME BEFORE THIS HAPPENED!" She shouted at the being. "You were supposed to save me." Then the girl started to cry. She sobbed. She should've known.

"Hush now child, it will all be okay. There, there. I've gotcha." The being kneeled down next to the girl and picked her up. She only had the feeling of being carried away before she drifted to sleep.

She woke up to the sound of birds singing and the smell of dirt and trees and animals. She was in a nice warm bed in a open shelter with only two walls and a ceiling. She sat up and ripped the covers off of her. She was in her favorite sundress. A small strapless thing with flowers all over it. She got out of bed and looked around, there wasn't really anything else in the lean-two. A bunny hopped up to her and placed a paw on her foot before looking up at her. It wanted to show her something. She followed the creature as it hopped away. It led her to a very familiar person putting the last finishing touches on a flower crown. Was she dead? It was then that the person noticed her presence.

"Oh, Joanne, you're awake." The person said, a huge smile forming on her face before she remembered the flower crown. "I uh, made you a flower crown. I know how you like them." She held out the flower crown in front of her. Joanne just stared in disbelief. Was what happened last night a dream? Or was this the dream?

"Dani? What's going on?" Joanne asked with a worried tone. Dani's face fell as she stood and placed the flower crown on Joanne's head. Joanne had to look up at Dani. "Was last night real? Is this real?"

        "Yes. Yes. It's all real."

        "So, then, you're..."

"Yes. I am. But so are you."

"I knew it. I always thought I was always more than a bit abnormal." Joanne let out a chuckle. "We're supernatural." Dani let out a chuckle too.

        "Yeah. I guess we are."

        Joanne smiled.

        Dani smiled back.

        Joanne hugged Dani.

        Dani hugged back.

"So it's just us and nature from now on then?" Joanne whispered.

        "Mostly, yeah." Dani whispered back.

Then, Joanne did what she had been wanting to do forever.

        Joanne pulled back a little,

        and Joanne kissed Dani.

        And Dani? Well,

        Dani kissed back.

I guess dreams, even the wildest of ones, can come true.
