The shouting. That's how it all began. That's why Samuel lives at my house. That's why he plays games with me that I don't like. That's why I'm alone.
2 years earlier
I heard my mother suddenly shouting at my father. "You don't love me!!! You only love your daughter!" my mother, Amaya, screams. " Well maybe if you loved her back I could love you both!! But you're the one who slept with Samuel and not your husband!" My father, Thomas, said to her. "How can I sleep with a man who doesn't love me back..." The yelling stops. While in my room I can hear my mother crying. I can hear my father in his room unzipping a duffle bag. After about 20 mins, my father walks into my room. "Hey ladybug, um," he says as he sighs," I have to l-leave for a... just something that might take sometime, b-but don't worry you can visit me too." "Daddy why do you have to leave it's nighttime." I said in my sad 9 yo voice. "You will know when you're older.." He left.
I didn't see him for atleast three weeks when I got to visit him at a cafe in 45 mins away. When I went to the cafe my mom waited outside and told me to go in and find my father. She refused to go in. I still didn't understand why.
2 years later
The bell is about to ring. -RING- Finally school is over. As I walk out I see parents picking up their kids in the parking lot. My mother, as usual isn't outside. I start my 20 min walk home. I slowly walk around the school entrance to make sure the teachers don't see me leaving by myself. My public school is in the middle of a very very poor neighborhood. I'm lucky to not live here. But my house isn't that much better. I finally get to my nice neighborhood and walk to the very back and to the corner is my house. The one with the weeds everywhere and chipping paint. It's just like the houses in the other neighborhood just in the back of a nice neighborhood. They built our small house strategically behind all the nice ones. I open the creaky front door. I'm greeted by Samuel my mother's fiancé. "Hey Brea, how was school," he says with a crooked smile on his face. "Just leave me alone Samuel," I said. "Get ready for our little game Brea, we only got till 6 cause that's when Ma comes home." I heard Samuel say as I walk into my room. I sat in my bed as tears fell from my eyes while thinking about all of Samuel's games.
