~Early in the Morning~
"Coffee? Check. Laptop? Check. Mysteriously broken gold key? Triple check." Lucky was in her apartment, sitting on her old couch in front of her coffee table. The sun was barely rising over the buildings, the faintest amount of sunlight reaching to her windows. She sipped on her expresso before typing away on her laptop. "Let's get down to business," she said to herself. "If you were so important that we had to steal you, my best guess is you're up on the Black Market." She started searching through contacts and links, hoping to find something, anything on this key. She would take long breaks of sipping her coffee just to search for any information. When she'd find something that resembled another piece of info, she'd go onto her phone and call a number. She had run into at least 10 dead ends before she decided to call it a break. "Goddamn it!" she yelled, throwing herself back onto her couch. She had to shield her eyes from the sun that was now up high above the buildings, glaring right into her apartment. She got up from her couch and closed the shades on her windows. She plopped back down and took another sip of her coffee. She soon turned her face up at how cold it was. "Dammit, dude." She got up to make herself another. As she grabbed her coffee pot to pour she heard her phone vibrating against the hard coffee table wood. She walked back over to see what was going on. She was getting a call from a contact labeled 'Popcorn'. She answered and pinned the phone between her ear and shoulder.
"Hey Lucky!" a man said over the phone. "I'm just now seeing your call. What's up?"
"Hey Popcorn," Lucky greeted as she tended to her coffee. "I'm just calling to have a quick question answered. Remember the job B and I took about 6 months ago?"
"You mean the one at the museum to grab that Mayan artifact?"
"Yep, that one."
"What about it?" Lucky plopped back down on the couch, taking a sip before continuing.
"Well, B seems to still have it after all this time. But somehow the man broke it and has no memory of how he did it. So, I offered to try and figure out what this thing is exactly and quite frankly, if we can sell it after it's fixed."
"I thought you stopped talking to him?"
"I did but it's not like anyone else was in contact with him."
"Yeah, I wasn't hearing anything on his end for a while. What made you reach out?"
"I didn't. He called me yesterday asking for help."
"Well, there are some people that would pay a lot of money for it on auction. There's one being held tonight at Bellagio Hotel and Casino. I could slip you in last minute if you want."
"There's no way I can get it fixed in time and I can't sell this thing if it's broken. Besides, as much as I hate this damn key, it might be good to hold onto it for a while. Something's fishy about it."
"Fishy how?"
"For starters, when B called me, he told me that he barely even knew who I was. He just called me because he saw my contact on his phone."
"Okay, that is a bit fishy. Think he's just pulling your leg?"
"I thought that, but he seemed pretty shaken up and confused about everything. Even he wouldn't go that far to hold a lie like that. Plus he's never had that great of a poker face."
"Hm, alright well, I'll start doing some research on this thing. I'll let you know what I come up with."
"Thanks, Popcorn. I'll send you payment right after the call."
"Nah, don't, I know you need it to pay off your debt from your prior jobs. It's just some info, keep the money."
"Ah, dude. I really owe you though. You bailed me out of jail and now you're helping me with this-!"
