It took a full hour and half to finish the physical exam. All the movements caused my arms and feet to ache painfully.
I was wheeled out of the room. My mom pushed the wheelchair.
"I bet you're enjoying this right now."
"I would be if I wasn't in pain, mom."
She chuckled. Hospital visits weren't easy for her. She hated seeing me there.
We turn the corner to enter the hallway. Evangeline was talking to Doctor Walsh. She noticed me being wheeled.
"Beckett! I catch up with you later Doctor Walsh." She whispered.
"Oh, hey Evangeline."
My mom put me inside my room. I already knew she was looking at Evangeline.
"Who's this?" My mom softly asked.
"Oh! Mom this is Evangeline Iverson. Evangeline, this is my mom, Liliana Hill."
They both looked at each other. I was really hoping this wasn't going to end bad. Usually my mom hates every girl she met. Evangeline was different. I hope she didn't hate this agonizingly beautiful, free spirited soul.
"Hello." My mom smiled.
"Oh my gosh, where are my manners! I thought you were an assistant nurse!" Chuckled Evangeline.
"Oh, so I've been told at Saint Bernards." My mom chuckled.
"Really? Wow, that is amazing! I wish my mum looked like a nurse." She smiled.
"Okay. Well Beckett, I'm gonna go. I have to work early tomorrow. It was really nice meeting you Evangeline. I hope I get to see you more." She smiled.
"Oh, you too!" She smiled and waved.
"Bye mom."
"Okay, your mum is like, awesome." She jumped on my bed.
"Thanks?"
"She looks young."
"So, why are you here?"
"Oh! Yeah! Okay well, lucky for us, the food trucks are in town. We have to go."
"What? Right now?"
"Yes! Right now. We have to try these beef tacos Sophia keeps telling me about."
"Who's Sophia?"
"Sophia? Sophia Kennedy? Fourteen? Currently living two rooms down from you?" She tilted her head. But all I did was nod my head no.
"Alright let's go meet Sophia." She grabbed my arm.
"What's about the food trucks?" I said holding back.
"Meeting Sophia takes like three seconds. If she's awake I'll introduce you, if not, we can go. No one will notice we're gone."
"How would you know?"
"I've seen other cancer patients do it."
"Really like who?"
"It doesn't matter. Let's go!"
I forced myself out of the wheelchair. She kept pulling my arm to follow her. She was too happy to show me who Sophia was. But when we got to her room, the lights were off.
"Well she's asleep. Maybe next time." She smiled.
"What next?"
"Tacos. We are getting those tacos wether we caught or not. I've never had an American taco. I want to know if they really are good like how people say they are."
