Warnings: Mild panic attack (I think, I'm not very good at writing things like this), CURSING, drinking mentions, I think that's it
"Mom! I'm back!" I shout as I open up the door. There came no reply immediately and everything seemed rather still. I backstepped out of the door, looking over my shoulder at mom's car in the driveway before looking back inside. "Mom?"
There was no reply.
Is she seriously not here? Did someone come to pick her up? Is she upstairs and sleeping? No, she would've heard me and woke up. Is she alright? Did something happen to her?
All these different scenarios made their way into my head and I couldn't force them back. I looked around the living room, looking for any sign of anything.
The couch looked the same, still in the middle of the room and taking up almost half the space. The coffee table didn't have anything on it and it didn't seem like it had moved. The TV and the dresser beneath it hadn't moved at all. The flower-filled vase on a small dresser beside the couch didn't seem like it had moved, and there was a pair of keys right beside it. There were picture frames on the wall underneath the stairs, as well.
I dropped my bag near the door, going over to the pair of keys beside the couch. I picked them up, looking them over before tightening my grip on them and running outside into the bright sunlight. I hissed and covered my eyes before slowly walking to the front of the car. I looked at the keys in my hand and the logo on the front before looking at the cars' logo.
They were the same.
Fucking hell...
I turned to run back inside, closing the door behind me and locking it. Where was she?
I reached to grab my phone in my pocket. There was a notification with the heading "Unknown Number" and a message beneath that.
From Unknown:
This is Logan.
Oh, thank Jesus...
I clicked the bubble, unlocked my phone, and called him. I wasn't very fond of changing names in my phone the moment I see them.
I sat down, my back against the door, the phone ringing in my ear, and the house still with that eerie silence.
"This is Logan-" He started.
"Logan, is Patton still there with you?" I asked quickly. I could feel my stomach turning into a bundle of knots, which it's done multiple times today.
"Uh, yes. Patton is here with me. Do you want this on speaker or speaking with me-"
"I... I want it on speaker," I replied. My words were coming out quickly and I couldn't seem to control my breathing, which was getting rather frantic.
"Hey, Virgil. What's going on, kiddo?" I heard Patton's voice on the phone and I slightly relaxed. He seemed genuinely concerned.
"I can't find my mom. I don't know where she is. She- she isn't home but her car is here and so are her keys. What if she got kidnapped? Did something bad happen to her? I don't know what to do, Patton. I don't know what to do..."
"How about taking this into consideration, Virgil." Logan offered. My breath hitched, waiting for what he was about to say. "First, take deep breaths. In for four, hold for seven, out for eight. Go ahead and try it, it may help." I did what he said and I could hear Patton whispering praise to Logan. I could already feel my nervousness going away, even if it was for a moment.
