My hand glides over the parchment as ink stains the rough surface. As I come to the end of the final heart-warming line, I look back to the very beginning page. 'Romeo and Juliet' it reads. I can picture the look on my wife, Anne's, face as she reads the last line of the script, taken aback by not just the tragic double suicide, but also the emotions I will create. I will manipulate the mind into, instead of offence to the unholy sin performed, pity towards the two lovers who only wanted to live together in peace, poisoned by their parents narrow mindedness. This play will be more than just a script. It needs to show the people what is truly important. The importance of the individual self and hopefully proving the insignificance of religion when it comes to true love. The people need to see. Geoffrey Chaucer would be proud of the inspirational work of art that I have created. The young lovers wanted nothing more than each other and didn't care what anyone else thought or said. As long as they were together and happy, they would continue to be blinded by love. This idea came to me when reading one of Geoffrey Chaucer's plays, "Romeus and Juliet", when I realised how inspiring it was. I didn't 'copy' his entire play, but it is loosely based upon it. The hidden meaning behind that story is the same as mine. To shift the public belief of what our necessities are. Instead of religion and Christianity, living life as it is now and making it what you so desire (I also hinted at this with not referencing the afterlife. Having death and only death, nothing else). It's a strange time though; people are in between the idea of living like this, although it is slowly altering. However, it isn't just for this time period. Even future generations of man will be better off with things like this. This is exactly what I want my plays to encourage. One day, I want my plays and writing to be reviewed all over the world and even studied in schools. It may take some time but I know, deep down, that it will work. Times are changing after all.
