You get off the plane. Finally, it's been hours. Hours of ear popping, back aching, and unfortunately, baby crying, and you couldn't wait to stretch your legs. You take in a deep breath of cold air. That was when you knew you finally made it to Ukraine. You'll have to thank your cousin's again for pitching in on the plane ticket to visit them. They knew you wanted to visit for a while. Now, you'll be staying with them for a whole year! You head to baggage claim, grabbed your luggage and started to head out.
You pulled out your phone and started to text her:
YOU: I just got out the plane and got my luggage, where are you?
DARIA: Me and Danylo are waiting at the McDonald's for you.
YOU: Aye good, I'm starving after only eating a bag of peanuts I could barely afford.
DARIA: Tsk tsk, fragile child, soon you will learn to survive on only potato at end of month. You will need to if you are to stay for a year.
YOU: Maybe, but for now lemme be an American and pig out on some McD's.
I put away my phone and head out to look for them. On the way I decided to Practice my Ukrainian by looking at the signs of various restaurants and delis they had at the airport. It didn't take long to find the golden arches were all familiar with. Daria was waving her hands wildly as soon as she caught sight of me and Danylo followed soon after.
"Welcome to Ukraine! Hope it is not too cold for you, it will be rough first week for you if it is." Danylo said, bringing me into a huge hug.
"HA! You think this weather will dampen my time here? You have no clue of what I deal with in Michigan! If it's not storming in the winter, the sky will try to kill you with balls of ice!" I argue jokingly, the twins laugh.
"Then you will have no problem with this place. Come! We should take you home."
We walk out of the airport and talk about what has happened since they visited in America. The twins also explained a couple slang terms Ukrainians say so I wont sound like a foreigner. As we step outside, we see it's starting to snow.
"Our cab should be here any minute." Daria explained, and no sooner had those words come out, a yellow cab blasting hard bass came to a screeching halt in front of us. The driver turned down the volume and pulled down the window.
"Привіт, я твій водій Борис! Куди ти хочеш піти?"
"Hello I am your driver Boris! Where do you want to go?"
His features were absolutely shocking, mainly because I couldn't see any of them. His face was covered with a black mask and tinted sun glasses. I couldn't even tell if he had hair because he was wearing a ushanka. You would think he'd be more shy given his face coverings, but it only seemed to give him more confidence as he spoke.
Oh God I forgot, I need to speak Ukrainian now, aye I'll sound like a fool but here goes nothing..."привіт! я (y/n). я відвідую.. для Америки.. для сім'ї?" I stutter through a horribly constructed sentence. It's seems like no matter how much I studied I would never be able to get it right in practice. Danylo was stifling a laugh while Daria seemed to be experiencing second hand embarrassment. However, the driver seemed amused.
"Ah! An American! I like to see one try to learn another language, is good for the brain. But eh, let your family take care of giving me the address no?"
I giggle in response. We clamber into in the cab, and after my cousins give him the address he started to drive.
"So tell me Miss America which part are you from?"
"Oh! I'm from Michigan, the mitten state."
"Ah yes the birthplace of cars, you see, I always wanted to visit all the states to rate their state foods. Do you know yours?"
"I dont know about a state food, but I hear we have an obsession with ranch dressing? I don't get it."
"Haha! I see!" He laughs and the twins seem to get a kick as well.
"So besides family, is there another reason why you are here in the great land of Ukraine?"
"Well, I always wanted to travel a bit before I settled down to become a (job preference). So I figured, why not stay with family and explore? Further more, I wanted to experience the same culture my family has, so I'm staying for a year to be closer to my family."
"A year? That is longer than most people care to be here."
"I'm just trying to make the most out of the plane ticket here."
The whole cab erupted with laughter at that. It took a minute before Boris could speak again.
"You are very funny. I'll tell you what, once you settle down, I will give you free tour of the best places in Ukraine! I know this place like the back of my own hand, you'll never find anyone better!"
Despite all the thoughts in my head suggesting that maybe not going on a random tour with an even more random stranger would be a good idea, He was so nice and it would be good for me to make a friend or two here.
"I might just take you up on that offer, as long as you let me buy you food after words. Least I can do for a free tour."
"Opa! I can tell we'll be good friends!" He cheered.
It was nice to see a taxi driver so happy. Especially when it's about one of their passengers. But maybe, it was nice because it was him that was happy and It was me that made it that way. And let's just say that's not an often occurrence.
As he pulls into the driveway I cant help bit feel a bit disappointed. The feeling quickly dissipates when he hands me his buisness card. The card wasn't exactly professional in a traditional sense. As his logo, he had a doodle of himself, the card itself was a bright yellow and the font an eye piercing blue. But aside from its eccentric design, it was standard buisness card with a phone number and email to contact him.
"Call me when you are ready for tour, I have many places already planned and corny jokes ingrained in my head." He says as he helps me pull my luggage from out of his trunk. My cousins are quick to help as well, taking my suit case and carry on into to the house.
"Haha! I hope to see you again soon Boris. до побачення."
Goodbye.
He waves his hand as goodbye, and as he closes the door behind himself, i can hear the hard bass he puts back on. I watch as he drives down the street and dissapear as he turns a corner.
This is going to be the start of a awesome year.

Hello everyone, I originally started a draft over three years ago when the idea first appeared in my head. However as soon as I started it I got distracted with other things. Relationships, school, even my other works have taken their part in slowing my progress. But now, I figured that maybe I could give him some recognition. If you weren't aware his view counts have been declining and has been making him lose hope in his channel. So to show my appreciation for his videos and for him as a person I decided to pick this work back up. I don't plan for it to be long, maybe 6 parts or little more, but it would be something. As for what to expect from this, don't. This fan fiction will not take its self super seriously and will have some crazy twists, so if you aren't into that, then don't read it.
Thank you for reading,
