"Sleep, sleep, sleep, sleep, close your pretty eyes and go off to Dream Land, precious child."
"No need to protest, cuz it's the best thing to do. Just dream about cookies and ice-cream!"
Too many...
"JuUst SlEeEp, DaRlInG."
Too many voices, sounds like a mosquito. Buzzing too loud and too close to her ear.
She tried to swat, didn't work because her arms won't move the way she wants. Then she tried to cover her eyes, almost worked.
"-ease, calm down, Gwen!"
"Why'd ya go and do that?! She's inhuman!"
"You need to calm down!"
"Me or the girl?"
"Everyone needs to shut up and back off!"
Why are the nice people pitching in to yell? Everything's too loud. Should... just...
"Shut up!" She screamed, her voice not quite her own.
"Gwen, please," Kevin, the blonde if she remembered, said. His voice sounded nice. "I know that the news was shocking, traumatic -and slapping didn't help- but you need to calm down. We can help."
Her eyes focused a bit to see his warm russet eyes. Then everything blurred and became distorted and it was scary.
"Take a deep breath, Gwen, and close your eyes."
Didn't want to. Too much work.
She tried to talk. "I, I'm feeEEEling Weird." She choked out, her voice going between deep and her own. "What's happening?" She then tried to do as he said, but the air felt gross and stale. "I waaant to g gooo home, I- I don't need any of your help!"
"Sleep now."
"No resisting."
Go... Away!
"Humans are filth, undeserving of life." Something, that wasn't her though inside her, growled, lifting her- their hand. "Greedy, selfish, cruel."
"Everything hurts..."
"I wanna sleep."
Were they talking in her head or did she voice their thoughts?
"Gwen, please-"
"Gwen, sweetie.""Mom?"
"Chocolate or vanilla?" Gwen could see her sweet and loving smile, in that dark cloud.
"V vanilla, always." She half laughed, half choked. "M mommy, where are y-"
"Sugarplum, wanna go and watch some cartoons while your mom gets ice cream?"
"Yes, but I want to know-"
"Really, Gavin. I thought we'd go out together. Never mind."
"Where are you?!" She screamed, dropping to her knees.
"Gwen, who are you talking to?""Gwen, no yelling. We're right here."
"I can't see you."
"Open your eyes, silly."
"But, they're already open." Gwen was so close to crying. Why couldn't she see them? She wanted her parents!
"Let me help, darling." Her mom chuckled, she felt hands, not warm but icy cold, on her face before rubbing and she started to see her mom.
"M mom." She whispered, her face contorting in tears as she went forward into her welcome embrace.
"Shh, it's been long." Her mom said, soothingly stroking her hair. "We've missed you."
"I *hic* knew it, you were sleeping." She said. "Not dead."
"Gwen, it's Kevin."
Her eyes snapped open, seeing that she was nestled in Kevin's lap, crying silently in his shirt.
"Wh what?"
"I'm very, very sorry." Kevin said, his russet eyes filled with sympathy. "You blacked out and May gave you a little pill that'll prevent you from being in that state again."
"But, I s saw my-"
"You were dreaming." Kevin said, resting his chin on her head. "I'm sorry, but your parents are gone. It hurts, but it's true."
"I want to go home. I need to." Gwen said, pulling away and standing. "My other dad, he'll take me to them. Then I'll laugh at you guys because they're alive."
She went to leave, but her wrist was grabbed. "Let me go, they're just sleeping."
"Gwen, whoever this other dad is, he lied." Kevin said firmly. "If you'd like, we can visit their graves."
Gwen wasn't aware she was still crying -she thought she ran out of tears. "N no, they can't have g graves because th that would m me mean th they w went a away l like Grandma D Daisy."
"C'mere." Kevin said, pulling her into his chest. "Take deep breaths. I know it hurts."
"Th they'd t tell me if they w were g gonna go a away." She sobbed, leaning into his chest.
"It's normal to hurt, you can cry as long as you like." Kevin said. "I'm not good at this." He muttered, wrapping his other arm around her and led her to the bed. "But you'll be fine."
