Ellie laid curled up on her bed despite the sun beaming outside and the rare 21 degrees heat. Her mind was turning, making her feel sick and she suddenly felt scared she would throw up. Her new mum wasn't like she expected, she thought that mums were supposed to love their children and surely sending your child away to boarding school wasn't right?
It was 3 months since Ellie had been removed from her biological parents care due to them abusing her and with the help of her social worker Stephanie after a month she was put into the care of Jenny, a middle aged woman with shoulder length blond hair and wrinkles creasing her forehead. Jenny was a nurse and had a lot of money which she decided to spend on sending Ellie to a all girls boarding school. It was this idea that was making Ellie feel so ill. When Ellie had arrived at Jenny's Jenny had decided that it would be best if she went to a boarding school in Devon. The school was situated on a cliff overlooking the sea and a beach called Bigbury. Ellie had looked up the school which was called Whitecliff and she had to admit it looked lovely but Ellie had never fitted into any school and the thought that she couldn't escape at the end of the day or week terrified her. She didn't feel happy or comfortable in Jenny's house either but it was better than a school, Stephanie had said that was normal and she would get used to it but Ellie didn't think so.Ellie sat up suddenly when she felt the sour taste come into her mouth and dashed into the bathroom across the corridor, Jenny hearing the noise upstairs raced up the stairs, entered the bathroom just in time to hold Ellie's long blond hair back while she retched up her lunch. Jenny rubbed her back and a shaky Ellie collapsed against her.
"You're okay now don't worry"
"I'm fine" Ellie's usual defensive shield had returned as she pulled herself out of Jenny's arms and returned to her bedroom positioning herself on her bed facing the wall. Jenny followed her and just watched her from the door for a minute or so thinking "I wish I could help her, I wish she would just talk to me so I could understand her" before returning back downstairs.
Once Jenny had retreated, Ellie crept back to the bathroom and rinsed her mouth and brushed her teeth before returning back to her room.
Ellie felt so miserable, she flipped over so she was facing her room and stared at the suitcase filled with all of her belongings ready to go. She heard Jenny's footsteps coming up the stairs and automatically sat up with her knees bent under her chin. Jenny knocked, entered and sat on Ellie's bed
"You need to pack your school satchel with a few things for the journey and anything you will need as soon as you get to school, would you like me to help?"
Ellie shook her head so Jenny left her be.
