A few generations ago the human population had died out. This left all of the biggest cities in ruins. The world was now in the paws of animals. In North America, specifically by what was Alaska and Canada there were two main Wolf Packs. Bears, Foxes, and others also ran free nearby. They called the area "The Protected Valley" as it had been a safe area for animals since the day the packs had moved in many years before. There was a forest in it and a flatter and clear area. They were inhabited by Sunpack, thin legged and swift pawed, and Oakpack, known for their strength. Sunpack was led by Eagle, a grand male wolf with a dotted gray coat. Oakpack was led by Blaze, a destinctive dark ginger wolf.

There was a prophecy (wow): "beware the black coat; It will bring destruction before there can be peace." (Great originality, 12 year old me!) The packs befcame paranoid and avoided speaking to each other for many many weeks. Until that fateful day when Blaze's mate had her pups in the cold month of December.
