The subject of their conversation was sitting upright in a cradle pose, his limbs wrapped around him like a cocoon. The three of them were alone, what was left of Aiznan had spread camp within the forest, believing it as the best way to remain unseen.
Their leader was meditating below a Mlonge; a short delicate tree, its leaves a light green mixed with white tiny blossoms. Mlonge trees grew like bushes with moderately long stems which deceived most to be strong stocks, it had always been a stupid decision to climb one. The tree was generally beautiful except for its seeds which were plenty; they were protected in green-long shells that hang beneath the line of leaves and flowers like a thousand lethal serpents. If a snake was hanging from the tree, one wouldn't be able to tell seed from serpent fast enough to spare its life.
"Why does he sit like that for hours, is he begging for The Maker's forgiveness, recreating his days in his mother's womb or does he just hide his ugly features?" What is it with creatures and appearances? We haven't learnt our lesson, have we?
The fraternal twins were both beautiful red heads with green eyes. Even though beauty was one of their most complimented blessings, Edeh hated using it to describe others.
She didn't think their leader was ugly but she knew most of the army thought otherwise of their commander, even the young aiz seemed to scowl at the sight of him, Edeh never understood what the whole fuss was about, his jobs wasn't to be handsome but to give them victory, another chance. The people of Aiznan used to be known for their witty character but ever since the knowledge of their disgrace, they had stayed hidden and none in the world still found them amusing , but things had started to change, hope was in their veins.
"He is going to go into seclusion before we leave, he leads five thousand soldiers yet he always craves solitude, Aiz should have been a leader of the faith?" spoke Eweh, her twin brother, both had been named second in command.
"Did someone break his heart, I heard he has been with every nan in the army." Edeh's curiosity had always led her to strange stories and this was one of them. Her brother didn't seem to believe her as he wrinkled his nose.
"I am sure he hasn't been with anyone since birth, he didn't come to dwell on his loneliness, he was born with it, it's always been in his head like a solemn disease."
"Legend has it his first name was Sorrow. His mother sank into melancholy when he started growing in her, it became more severe as her due date came closer; she became delirious, her eyes red with despair and after he was born, when she saw him, she grabbed the mid wife's blade and slit her throat, It is not clear she did it because she had turned suicidal or maybe he was just too hideous."
Edeh slapped his brother hard on his neck, knocking him off the pedestal he had balanced himself on.
"You gossip too much, it's a shame to call you my brother." Edeh offered a hand to help her brother up, he took it and pulled down with his full strength, shoving his sister down into the muddy ditch behind him.
"I am sorry sister, I seem to have grown heavy." Eweh cleared his throat and settled on the block his sister had occupied before, waiting for her to regain her composure.
"I have heard of that story before, I doubt its true." Edeh was still sitting in the mud, inspecting the damage, she was fully covered in watery dirt. They sank into silence for a milth when Edeh spoke again.
"Whatever happened to that girl you met in the dreams of darkness? You haven't spoken about her in years." Eweh decided to join his sister in the mud, his mood had sank upon mentioning the girl and a gloomy cloud had appeared above his head.
