Four Years Later
"C'm on!, giyup!" I urged him on as we cantered down the slope, quickly gaining on the runaway pony. If we galloped to the left and cleared the nearing fallen tree, we'd have plenty of room to cut the little terror off. Seeing this was our best option I let Maverick slip into the thrilling gallop of which I had come to love. 3, 2, 1. We cleared the log with ease and I leant forward, my hands above his neck, asking him to go faster still. We were about 10 meters in front now.
I sat up straight, his right ear swivelled slightly, waiting for my next cue. He knew it was coming. I squeezed my shoulder blades together and leant back just a little. Maverick slid to a stop, his haunches underneath him, dust raising above us. I can imagine the neighbours thought we looked a treat. Sweaty teenage girl, wearing shorts and a singlet riding bareback on a slightly ribby chestnut gelding whilst raving after a psychotic pony. Without hesitating, we spun around to face and cut off Cody. "Gotcha shitface!" I laughed as my mini horse slid to a stop, looking totally mortified that we had managed to outwit him. Slipping down from mav, I walked up to Cody whilst undoing my belt. "Come here dooface." With a sigh, Cody walked the rest of the way towards me. I slipped my belt through the ring under his Chin on his halter and led him towards mav.
I stood him directly parallel to mav. Throwing the reins over mavs head I gave him a brief pat before climbing on Cody's back and then mounting onto mav. Cody swung his head around glaring at me. "I'm sorry I ruined your great escape,". He snorted. "Okay, and that I still have to use you as a mounting block." I gave a cluck and we began the ride home.
