A Quick Good-bye

Her whole body trembling, her mascara ran down her face, as she watched him place the bags in his car. She knew this was best for them both, but she couldn't bring herself to say it out loud. He closed the boot of the car and she wrapped her arms around him, her head resting on his back.
"Please, I'm begging you don't do this. We can make it work I promise." The tears wouldn't stop rolling down her face and she was finding it more difficult to breathe. He pushed her arms away, without even looking at her he opened the driver's door. Just before he got in he whispered, "I love you Kate." It stung her so badly but to make it worse he didn't even turn back to look at her once he just kept his face away from her and drove away. As he took the last turn on the road that made him out of sight Katelyn dropped to her knees. She felt as though her heart was about to fall out of her, or whatever was left of it anyway. She stayed there in the drive on her knees crying, not being able to stop herself, not being able to stop the pain.

Katelyn smiled at herself in the mirror and stroked down her, body tight, white dress. It made her figure look amazing the way it stuck so perfectly to her body.
"You can do this," she reminded herself, "he's just a man and you are so over him."
"Katy we're going to be late if you don't hurry!" Marcus shouted up to her. If it wasn't for him and his stupid fancy parties she wouldn't have to be at Jayce's house. She wouldn't even have to be reminded of the heartbreak he had left her with.
"White again? Could you not have worn something more sexy like red or black?" Marcus frowned looking at her, she knew he hated her looking plain but she loved it. It made her feel like a normal average person and not someone who is living a luxurious life.
With a smirk Katelyn grabbed her bag and headed out to the limo.
" Seriously Katy can you not go up and change into one of those gorgeous dresses I got you?" he followed her but she blanked him and sat in the limo waiting for him to just give up and get in.
The drive to the party was silent, just the way Katelyn liked it. Yet this time her thoughts were running wild, she couldn't get him out of her mind. Wondering what he would say to her if he seen her now. Especially considering she goes gym everyday now and she's alot more successful compared to back then.
As she stood outside the house Marcus had brushed past her and headed straight inside completely blanking her. Stuck up twat, she thought, screw him you can do this. She took a deep breath and headed inside, it was filled with reporters and upper class people. Katelyn grabbed a glass of champagne and delved deeper into the room. She could see Marcus talking to his work colleagues with his smug smile and his eyes wandering at any woman that walked past him. She rolled her eyes and walked out to the back garden.
As Katelyn lit up her cigarette someone caught her eyes. There he was, looking more handsome than ever. His suit looked tight on his muscular body, his dark, hazelnut hair gelled down and his stunning blue eyes.... Were looking down at the woman wrapped around him. He was smiling at her and stroking her back as he talked to the crowd of people around them. Katelyn felt like a lump had suddenly formed in her throat. She finished her cigarette and as she turned to head back inside Marcus was standing right in front of her.
"I thought you gave them up?" he said more as a warning instead as a question. Katelyn shook her head and pushed past him. He grabbed her by her wrist and pulled her back. "Don't try playing nasty Katy you know what will happen." She gave him a peck on the cheek and then walked inside. When Marcus had finally joined her inside she had told him her stomach was upset and thankfully she was able to leave without him.
As she lay in bed back at home she couldn't help but wonder what would have been said if she had walked up and said hello tonight. Why wasn't she brave enough to even make him notice her. And why in the world is she thinking like this when she's engaged to Marcus. Oh yeah that's why, it's Marcus. Appearances are everything to him and when she met him in the gym he had to have her. Marcus plagued her until she agreed to go on a date with him, he was so different then. At first he seemed like he cared, but after a few months of her being with Marcus and him gaining enough leverage over her, he changed. She had to do as she was told or there was going to be a landslide of events in her life. She had emphasized multiple times to him that it was either Katelyn or Kate she hated being called Katy. But typical Marcus just does whatever he likes.
As her thoughts went trailing off about tonight she slowly drifted into a deep sleep.
