The rain was battering down on the car as it carefully made it's way down the empty motorway. Ebony rested her head on the cold window, which her eyes were gazing out of, despite the fact it was approaching 10pm and she couldn't actually see anything.

The radio was blasting some old 80s song but it was clear that neither Ebony, her brother Matt or her father were really paying attention to it, especially since it took at least a minute for her dad to realise it had in fact lost signal and turn it off.

"Ebony, you can't go on like this, please say something" her father begged, his voice just above a whisper. But she didn't reply. She didn't even turn to look at him.

Matt just looked between the two with sad eyes. The family was falling apart. And there was nothing any of them could do to stop it.

They reached her father and brothers home in Brighton at around midnight. It was certainly a lot different to her mothers home in Devon which she had left behind.

"Here you go sweetie" her dad said, passing her just one of the very many boxes containing all her belongings.

Again, she didn't say a thing. She simply took the box from her dad and made her way up the stairs to her old bedroom. Nothing had changed since she'd last been here four years ago. Not the furniture, not the carpets or the walls, even her room had remained untouched with everything still in it's original place.

Ebony couldn't help but have her whole childhood come racing back as she glanced at all her old band posters and pink bed sheets. Being here again brought back so many of her old memories and she wasn't sure whether she found this comforting, or whether this depressed her even more.

She slipped off her battered converse and there was a light knock on her bedroom door. She opened it to find Matt standing there with three more boxes. Ebony simply stood aside and let him rest them down beside her bed.

"Ebony please stop this, it's killing him" Matt begged in a hushed voice, referring to their dad.

"It was my fault" she whispered back, shaking her head.

"You need to stop saying that Ebony! The sooner you stop putting yourself down like this, the sooner we can all move on as a family!" He stated, placing a hand on her shoulder, but she just shook her head and he took this as a queue to leave.

Ebony slowly made her way into the ensuite she was once so familiar with and stared into the mirror. Her hair was lazily tied back into a knotty ponytail, she had large grey bags under her eyes and it looked like the same black jumper and leggings had been worn every day this week. Not too soon after taking all these features in, she burst into a flood of tears. She was a mess.

Suddenly, an idea came to mind. She stared down at the old scares patterned onto her arms and she realised what she must do to escape. She stared at the reflection of the cabinet containing her razor. It was practically screaming her name.

Ebony made her way to the cabinet, and opened the doors to reveal the old friend and didn't even think twice before taking it into her hands and gliding it back over old scars. She continued to let the tears fall freely down her face as she returned the razor to it's original place and left the bath room.

"So this is what my life has come to?" She whispered to herself, before slowly slipping on her pyjamas and getting into bed.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Her best friend Lauren asked as they both stood outside the house party.

"Will, will doing this make me a slag? It's just, I don't really want that label"
