My tongue fiddled with the cold, metallic lip ring that pierced my lips. The annoying tap of several pencil rhythms filled the room as the excited students wait for the new girl that was accepted into our small elite school. It's not everyday a student is accepted into Willson High. The best school in the West American valley only for kids with a GPA higher than 4.0. I felt a jab on my side. I turned around to see Alyssa. She had short, strawberry blonde hair with plump lips. Her blue eyes sparkled in the bright lights of the classroom.
"Are you excited to meet the new girl?" she questioned.
I just shrugged. Everyone is the same at this school. They only care about what matters to them and only them. Alyssa was no exception, she's the most boisterous with a spitfire personality. No one is different, so why would the new girl be any less haughty.
"Maybe we can invite her to the friend group," she suggests, "we need to ask Garrett tho."
I nod again not really interested in the conversation. My attention was brought back to the front of the classroom. There stood a girl with the school's boring uniform. She tucked in the tan sweater that came over her hands into her gray, plaid skirt. She had white, knee high socks coming from her black, Doc Martens. It wasn't the way she styled her school uniform that stood out or her piercing green eyes that made her look like a doll. No, it was the metallic lip ring that glistened in the sunlight shining through the window.
I thought I was going to be the only one with a lip ring, they're not allowed in this elite school. I felt Alyssa jab my side again. I turned around only to see her smirking.
"She's cute, aye?" she taunted.
I didn't reply and turned around. She was very cute indeed. Freckles danced across her pale white skin. She was naturally beautiful. Her long lashes curved in a gentle way. She didn't look like the normal snobs that roamed this school. She was different, diverse and anyone can tell that.
"Students," the teacher spoke, "this is your new classmate."
The classed mumbled "duhs" and other comments.
The teacher sighed, "Since you guys seem to be so smart, this young lady has a GPA of 4.83 which is better than the majority of you."
"I was hoping you'd keep that a secret," the girl spoke out. Her voice was soft like she hasn't spoken in a long time.
"I do apologize," the teacher replied back, "why don't you introduce yourself?"
"Hmm," she paused, "well, my name is Mikaela."
Mikaela. Meaning, a sense of power. Interesting name.
"Anything else?" the teacher pushed.
She shook her head no and looked down at the floor. After the teacher said where to sit, she moved. Class began, but all my attention was on Mikaela. Her blonde hair was long, going down to her lower back to be exact. She had a side part that was on the left. I took my eyes off her hair to her lip, her lip ring. I wonder when she got it? When class was over Mikaela gathered her things. I wheeled around only to notice Alyssa was already talking to her . I sighed and walked over there.
"....sit with us at lunch?" I heard Alyssa trail.
Mikaela nodded her head and then looked at me and smiled. Her teeth were white and straight, looking perfect.
"Don't leave me looking like an idiot," she chuckled, "say something."
I cleared my throat, "I'm Eli."
She stood up and grabbed her bag. She was very short. My height towered over her casting a shadow. Her mouth fell open as she craned her neck to look up at me.
"Okay, how the hell are you so tall?" she pointed out.
I smiled at her a laughed, "How the hell are you so short?"
She pouted in a joking way and turned away from me, "I'm offended."
I smiled yet again and made my way towards lunch.
The three of us gathered in the lunchroom. I instantly spotted Garret sitting alone at our designated table. We made our way over there and sat down. Alyssa and I grabbed our lunches out, but we noticed Mikaela didn't do anything.
She noticed our stares and said, "Oh! Don't worry about me. I'm okay." She smiled. It looked fake.
"Please tell me you're not depressed or anorexic. That shit is too much to handle," Alyssa confidently spoke.
Ouch. I felt that. Mikaela's mouth gaped open, most likely offended. Alyssa being the air head she is, didn't notice. Mikaela just smiled and laughed along with Alyssa, all behind her fake smile.
Lunch continued with Alyssa asking Mikaela the most random questions while Garret read and I stared off into space. I was wondering why he didn't say a word to her, considering she is new.
A hand came up to my eye. I flinched when I felt my hair being pushed aside. I turned to the left to see Mikaela was the one who moved my fringe behind my ear. I hastily moved it back to it's correct place.
She smiled in triumph and said, "I thought you were covering something."
My mouth gaped open."It's considered rude when you touch someone without their permission," I barked at her.
A fraction of my face is tainted with scratches and scars, leaving me blind in my right eye. The cream color iris and the idea that I was mauled shook people to the core. I've always hated the daunting look.
"You were constantly fixing it so I thought there was a tattoo or something," she trailed, "that would have been cool too."
"Garrett and I are going to our next class," Alyssa spoke with a monotone pitch "if we don't see you after school we'll see you guys tomorrow."
Garret nodded and hurried off to class with Alyssa. Garret didn't say a word to Mikaela. I'll ask him about it later.
"Your eye is pretty... You should show it off more," she paused, "and your hair is adorable." With that, left me to go to her next class.
