this chapter is sort of a recap of the whole series until the final four episodes. I will tell it through Katara's point of view as she is the one telling the rest of the story. the final four episodes will have a chapter of their own, because many thongs will be changed from the series, unlike here where rather small details are changed. please enjoy this little recap that i worked on for three whole days while watching the series itself so that it will be as accurate as i could make it.

Freedom is a funny thing, you know. No one really has freedom, it's been that way for as long as the war was happening. Three whole generations were born into this war, three generations with no freedom whatsoever. My grandmother used to tell me about the world before the war, a world where there were no conflicts visible to it, a world full of freedom. She never had it herself, being the first generation to be born into this heinous war, but she always told me stories that her parents told her as a little girl. The first taste of freedom I had in my life was when I discovered that the little boy I found is the avatar, the same day I left the south pole for the first time. Aang has always been filled with freedom, being born before the war, and somehow he managed to keep it through everything he went through as the avatar. Many stories have been told over the years about his bravery, creativity, and talent. This is a story about his freedom, and the freedoms of everyone who joined him. But this is also a story about love.

The north pole was our first stop in getting Aang to learn the elements, and water was at the top of the list. luckily for me, the only water bender in the south pole with no ability to learn it properly and get better at it. Unfortunately, the water bending master of the north pole only taught boys, and I was most definitely a girl. So I went where all water bending girls went to, healing classes. They proved useful in our big adventure to get Aang to be the avatar but at the time I didn't see it, I only saw it as a useless waste of my time. Within two days I became the best student in that class, but I never really paid any attention to that. Aang taught me in secret what he had been taught by master Paku. When he found out, master Paku humiliated us both by saying that he won't teach Aang anymore. That's when I had enough and challenged him to a duel. I used what I already knew and what I learned from Aang to try to defeat the master. He won, but agreed to teach me after realizing who my grandmother was, his old fiancé. He never told why they broke up but he seemed really torn up about seeing the engagement necklace that he made for her. After that, he taught both Aang and me water bending.

My brother Sokka wasn't a bender, but he definitely was a warrior. When we first got to the north pole he fell in love with the princess, Yue. He had a hard time convincing her to love him and was heartbroken when she revealed that she's engaged to another. They still started a relationship despite her engagement, it was going quite well until the fire nation attacked. They were a few fleets, hundreds of ships, and tens of thousands of soldiers, all fire benders. Yue broke up with Sokka when the first sign of attack was visible to all. Sokka was so heartbroken that he volunteered on a very dangerous mission, one he may not come back from. Yue was on her own mission as well, helping Aang cross over to the spirit world. Yue and I stood next to him when crossed over, and when Zuko tried to take him away I fought him, but lost. Yue and Sokka helped me find Aang and got closer while doing so, but Yue got weird when Aang came back to us and warned us about the spirits being in trouble, we brought Zuko with us, as Aang was kind enough to not let his captor die in the cold. We hurried back to the oasis in the heart of the north pole and on the way Yue explained her white hair and weird attitude after Aang told us about the spirits. She had part of the moon spirit inside her. When we got to the oasis we found that general Zhao has caught the moon spirit. Iroh, who was also there, threatened Zhao. That convinced him to release the fish spirit back to the water, but in a fit of rage he fire bent at the small lake and killed the moon spirit anyway. Iroh attacked Zhao while we mourned the death of the moon spirit. Iroh quickly defeated the general and mourned with us, none of us noticed Zuko escaping. Aang went into the avatar state and walked into the lake. While the moon spirit's body is Iroh's hand Aang merged with the ocean spirit and used all the water in the north pole to create a giant creature made entirely of water. He walked to the fleet of ships and flushed all fire nation soldiers on the way. In the oasis, Iroh placed the dead fish back into the lake.
