I look in the cheese-stained mirror, watching my dead eyes stare back at me. Turning my Lil Peep playlist on, I prepare for yet another night of starvation and agony. Since Sandra left, I've been repeating this routine every day. I wake up, bags under my eyes, and go onto the flimsy plastic stage. The bratty, snotty little kids glare at me until I sing Cardi B or whatever kind of stuff the dictative children want me to sing.
I'll give them pizza with a huge smile on my face, but a giant hole in my heart.
My children need to be fed, I can't afford to lose them now. Since Sandra cheated with that bandicoot guy I can't think straight.
"CHUCK, IT'S TIME TO GO UP!"
My eyes darken, another day of this. Sing, smile. Sing, smile. Sing, smile.
A hedgehog enters the restaurant with a slam.
"Hey buckaroos! Free pizza on me!"
The crowd turns their attention away from me and to the mysterious generous figure with a twinkle in his eye. I finish my set and approach the hedgehog.
"Hey man... that- that was cool. Thanks."
He takes the pizza out of his mouth and speaks to me.
"No worries dude! Y'all wanna grab a corn dog? You got a family, right?"
I am shocked at his proposition, but I haven't eaten in days. I need food for myself and the kids.
"Uh, yeah! That sounds amazing! Thank you!"
Wow, that's the first time I've ever talked like that. Character development, I guess.
"Sonic."
I stumble for words as the hedgehog spoke.
"E-excuse me?"
"That's my name. Sonic."
That's definitely a strange name, but something in me finds it slightly attractive. It feels like a surfer name; and boy do I like surfers.
I call for the kids and they optimistically run to me.
"This nice guy is going to get us food, okay?"
They can hardly contain their happiness- I see Sonic look back up at me.
"Come on, let's go"
He says with a subtle smirk.
Some pink cat glares at me as we head out, but I don't have to worry about her.
We get into Sonic's car and barrel down the highway.
"Uhm, Chuck? Can I ask you something?"
My heart races.
"Yeah?"
"I'm sorry if this is too forward but... are you single?"
I blush a deep red.
"Well, yes. Yes I am."
Telling him about Sandra wouldn't be smart right now.
His voice gets higher and he calmly states
"I see."
