Run. Faster. Is Kayla keeping up? Yes. Faster. Run. Pause. Breathe. Run.

These are the only things running through my head as my sister and I cover thousands of miles over who knows how many days. I don't know where we are now, but we are safe for now.

That is the only reason we finally stop for longer than a few minutes at last, the sense of the fact that we are finally far enough away to breathe.

And breathe we did, collapsing to the ground. I look at Kayla, who looks back at me with a look in her eyes that tears at my soul. So lost. So heartbroken. I am sure my eyes look the same.

Our pack had just been wiped out... And we were forced to run. No one can disobey their Alpha's order, not even his daughters. And now, the only thing left for us is each other. I had felt the pack bond dissolve as more and more had died and we got out of reach.

I need to protect her. I lean into her side a bit, trying to give her comfort. That was the moment I realized that where we were had a pack smell; we crossed into territory. I shoot up, sending a message to Kayla, fear coming over me for what would happen if we did not get out now. 'We passed a pack's territory line. We have to leave'

And that is when I smelled a wolf too close too late.
