“Zoey! It’s the first day of school! Get your lazy butt up! I need more time, to be perfect. Mom and Dad left for work.” Claire, my sister, yelled. I yawned, stretched, and put on my glasses. “Okay.” I said. She hurried to dry her wet hair. I blinked a few times before realizing what she said. As soon as it rang a bell, I jumped up in excitement. Maybe this year will be different, I thought then continued, Maybe I won’t be bullied! I walked over to my bathroom, doing my business. Next I brushed my teeth, my goal was for my teeth to be just as perfect as my sister’s, but I know that won’t happen. I brushed my brown hair, that reached past my waist, taking as many tangles out as I could. I walked over to my messy closet and grabbed something, then threw it back realizing it was a pink blouse. Ew. I searched enthusiastically to find something nice. Finally! A lilac t-shirt and some black jean capris. I put on some black flats, grabbed my backpack and hurried downstairs for breakfast.

As I walked down the flight of stairs, I heard my sister talking to her boy friend, Curt. Curt was the most popular boy in school, who despised me. Every time my mom told my sister to babysit me they would go out to the movies, which is not bad but they always ignored me. Curt always called me Zozo, that was his nickname for me. He was always insulting me, and every year I thought things would change. I soon realized it would be the same as he snickered when I came through the kitchen archway. I hung my head low so he couldn’t see the hurt on my face. “Hey look its Zozo!” Curl blurted out. Claire giggled with her cute voice. Curt pulled me toward him, as he dug his knuckles onto the top of my scalp. It burned so intensely that tears formed in my eyes. I hid my emotions from them, trying to act tough. I quickly ate my cereal to get away from them and to be early for school. Just as I finished Curt whispered to Claire loud enough for me to hear, “Is she gaining weight?” “Yeah she’s a pig.”  my sister chuckled. “Should we give her a ride to school so she doesn't have to pull her own weight?” “Ha, no. Let the 16 year old sausage walk.” I quickly ran out the door with tears running down my face.

I walked, feeling insecure letting the tears run down my face like a waterfall. I hugged myself tighter thinking about how nothing has changed over the years. I heard a girl whistling behind me, sounding happy. I glanced behind me to see a girl I’ve never seen before. I wiped away the tears which have stained my face. I walked faster knowing that she too could be a bully. She had beautiful ombre hair that went from a brown to a blond with soft curls at the ends. I envied her with her pretty grey eyes with flecks of blue. She glanced up and saw me. She walked faster to catch up with me. OH NO! I walked faster as she trotted behind me. “Stop!” She said out of breath. “I won’t hurt you!” She said playfully. I stopped and let her catch up to me. “Man I’m outta shape,” I heard her say almost whispering it. After she caught her breath she introduced herself. “I’m Angel.” She smiled. “I’m Zoey,” I said as I looked away. She turned out to be a new student at Crescent High, my school. We walked and talked, with a few laughs here and there.

When we arrived at school, I walked to class. I thought about that girl, Angel. I dont think I can trust her yet. I always have to be careful who I can trust, and right now that’s nobody. I knew that she would have to prove herself in order to prove she is not a traitor. BAM! I fell back, hitting the cold lockers. I looked up, my vision blurry, and saw someone with jet black hair and that’s all I could remember before blacking out. I woke up in the nurses office. “What happened!?” I stammered. “Oh hun. You bumped into some fella, he brought you here.” the nurse replied. “Do you know who he was?” I questioned. “Nope, I’m sorry hun. Well you seem okay now. Would you like to return to class?” She replied. “Yes please.” “Okay hurry on now.” She handed me a pass to go to 2nd period, and I was off.

As I walked into 2nd period, everyone stared at me with confusion in their eyes. “Where was she?” one girl whispered. “She was never late to any of her classes last year.” another student said. “I heard she hit someone and almost died!” A girl stated. “No way!” one answered. Everyone looked at her in disbelief. Clap Clap Clap! The teacher had gotten everyone's attention. “Class, I would like to clear up that Zoey here simply bumped into someone. Now let’s continue with the rules and expectations.” I slumped down in my chair, my face red with embarrassment.
