Jessie's POV
"Ashton is hotter! Calum is cute, not hot. There's a difference." I argued, leaning back on shop's counter. Izzy and I were both working the same Friday afternoon shift and were currently arguing who was the hottest member of 5SOS. Izzy and I had realized that we shared a lot, including an obsession with a certain Aussie band.
"Let's just agree to disagree ok?" She huffed, obviously not giving up the battle, just agreeing to let it go.
"Fine." I laughed, turning towards the door which had just dinged, alerting us to the arrival of a customer. Zeke and Jake, who happened to be here to relieve us from our shifts, walked in and made their way through the cool interior of the shop.
My heart involuntarily picked up speed. I still hadn't talked to Jake since our run in a few nights ago, and I, being the emotionally incompetent idiot I am, didn't know how to. Turning my head towards the ground, I heard them get closer until I looked up to see a sunglass-clad Zeke shamelessly checking me out.
"I think I want a big heaping scoop of this sweet thing." He smirked, pointing at me. I groaned at his sad excuse for a pick up line and saw Jake shooting Zeke an annoyed look.
"Sorry, we don't serve dogs." I shot back with a sickly sweet smile, earning laughter from Jake and Izzy.
"Whatever", Zeke grumbled as he, Jake, and Izzy began talking about some party this weekend. I listened slightly but had my mind somewhere else as my eyes roamed the room finally landing on Jake animatedly talking. His hair was messy, as per usual, and he was dressed in simple clothes. Shorts and a random blue shirt helped make him complete the classic Cali look. I soon snapped back to reality when Izzy began frantically waving her hands in front of me.
"So will you?" Izzy chirped, obviously wanting the answer to a question I hadn't even heard.
"What?" I chuckled, laughing at my own spacy-ness.
"Will you go to Evan's party tonight? It's gonna be awesome!" She said in a sing-song voice.
I thought for a moment. The bonfire had been the first social gathering I had been to in months. This would be another social gathering.
With people.
And alcohol.
And dancing.
Gross.
"Even if I say no you're still going to make me go aren't you?" I asked, obviously not believing in my own free will at the moment.
"Yup." She laughed, popping the 'p'.
"Fine" I groaned, thinking about the effort I'll actually have to put in to go to this party
"Yes!" Izzy shouted, beginning a little happy dance. I chuckled slightly and walked towards the back room to put away my apron.
Zeke and Izzy were still back at the counter, but Jake began to follow me into the back room, probably to get his apron. My eyes shifted down again as I fumbled with the knot at the back of my apron.
"Here." I heard Jake laugh warmly as his hands brushed the small of my back and fumbled with the knot, his breath hitting my neck. My own breath hitched slightly.
What can I say? It tickled.
"There." He said with finality as the knot was undone.
"Thanks." I mumbled, hanging up my apron and heading towards the door.
"Wait," I heard Jake say. I turned around to face Jake as he looked at the ground and rubbed the back of his neck with his hands, obviously a nervous tick of his," Are you ok? Or were you the other night... or I don't know I just... are you ok?"
