charlie pounded on the door to the seavey manor, shaking from head to toe. his cheek was bruised and his eye was black, tears pricking at his eyes. his lip was cut open, charlie just sniffling and wiping the blood away with the back of his hand.
dan opened the door, frowning at the boy. "charlie, what's wrong?" he asked, not being able to see the bruises on the boy's face in the dark.
"i don't like it here, dan." charlie whispered, dan slowly letting him in.
"d'you have a black eye?" dan asked quickly when charlie walked in, charlie just sniffling and shrugging quietly.
"maybe." he whispered, dan gently grabbing his wrist and pulling him to the bathroom.
charlie was sat on the toilet, dan gently cleaning his lip up. "what happened, charlie?"
charlie didn't answer for a second, just staring up at dan. "i like boys, dan." he whimpered, so quiet that only he could hear himself.
"what?" dan asked, furrowing his eyebrows and looking at him.
"boys, i fucking like boys." charlie whimpered, a bit louder this time. "i like boys, and i was gonna call you to tell you because i didn't wanna do it in person, but it went to voice mail and when i was talking someone heard me and now it hurts-" charlie paused, just sniffling again and whimpering. "it hurts."
dan frowned, looking at him. "'s okay to like boys, you know. it is, you just found the wrong person when you were telling me."
"i don't like it here," charlie repeated, dan helping him up quietly and sitting him on the couch.
"stay here, charlie, i'll be right back." dan murmured, ruffling charlie's hair gently as he walked upstairs. charlie just nodded and looked up at the stairs.
dan came back with a fuzzy blanket and pillow, smiling when he found charlie curled up, asleep on the couch.
he put the blanket over him gently, putting the pillow on the coffee table, patting charlie's shoulder and jogging upstairs.
