Have you ever woken up and not known where you were? Like when you were a child and you fell asleep watching television and your father would carry you up to bed? That's just how I felt one Thursday morning...
I woke up and my bedroom was filled with different things. I had different clothes, which were rather revealing, and a completely different bedroom. What was most terrifying, was that my Beatles posters were all gone. My four guys were replaced by five different people. Everything looked so...expensive and shiny.
"Jo, sweetie! Get up or you'll be late to school." I heard my mom yell from downstairs. I looked at myself in the mirror; I looked exactly like I should with my green eyes and long blond hair. I slowly walked outside and down the stairs. Everything looked new and...futuristic.
"Mom," I said, "What day is it?"
"It's December 20, 2012." she said. 2012! What? Just yesterday, it was December 19, 1965. What's going on?
I couldn't tell my mom what's going on. I don't want her to freak out and think I'm going crazy.
I decided to just get ready for school. But what was I going to wear? I decided to play it simple and wear jeans and a shirt. That's still in style, right?
Now, I've faced a new problem: how am I going to get to school? And where is it?
I went downstairs and my mom said, "Alright, let's go."
We were in the car listening to strange, strange music when my mom asked if I was going to put on makeup. I had never worn makeup before...
"Oh, yeah of course." I said, looking for some eyeliner.
"Right here, sweetie." she said, handing me a bag full of implements.
"Oh, thanks." I said. After about 20 minutes, I didn't look half bad. I had put on some black eyeliner and mascara.
"Alright, Jo, have a good last day of school." she said while pulling into a driveway.
"Last day?" I asked.
"Yes, today's the last day until Christmas Break. Which reminds me, I have a surprise for you when you get home! Don't forget, Tammy's taking you home!" she yelled as she drove away.
Who the hell was Tammy? I looked into my back pack and thanked my lucky stars that I had a schedule in there. My first class was Spanish 4. I had never spoken Spanish in my life. This was going to be an interesting day...
"Hola, clase. ¿Comó están?" a teacher spoke spanish and entered the class room. The class responded with a monotonous 'hola'.
"Juanita, I believe it is your turn to present your project, yes?" my teacher, Señor Hernandaz, said. I looked around the class room and searched for Juanita. Then, I noticed that everybody was staring at me.
"Um, my name's June," I said confused.
The guy sitting next to me whispered, "How hung over are you, Jo?" Who's Jo? Was he crazy and talking to himself in the third person? Or am I Jo?
"Juanita, the project," Señor Hernandaz persisted.
"Right, yes, I'm Juanita and my name's also a boy's name." I tripped to get out of my desk. "Enchalada, Taco, Barcelona."
My classes have all been confusing so far. They all have these magical white boards that light up and you can draw on them without using a real pen. I'm starting to like the future.
I walked into the cafeteria and saw that it was filled with people. I heard someone calling my name from a distance.
"Jo, over here!" she called. She had long, brown curly hair and light brown eyes.
"I haven't seen you all day." she said. There were others at the table, a few girls and a few guys.
"Erm-yeah, hi." I said awkwardly and took a seat next to the girl.
"You okay?" You seem like you don't even know us." she said. Oh, the irony.
"Oh, no I'm fine. Just some hard classes." I said, lying rather well.
"Oh, sucks." some guy said. "Yeah, my classes were pretty tough."
"Hey, Tammy, did you do the Spanish homework?" someone asked.
"Yeah, it was pretty easy." she said. Thank God I now know who I'm going home with. They all seemed rather nice, but Tammy seemed the most fun. Apparently, we were best friends. We all went our separate ways after we finished eating.
The rest of the day took forever because it was all so confusing and I was late to all of my classes. I blamed it on my 'bad knee'. I was just full of lies today.
I walked out to the parking lot and saw Tammy in a small, blue car. "Come on, sweet cheeks!" she honked her horn.
"So, do you wanna hang out tonight? Maybe have sleepover? It is the last day of school for the year." she said.
"Sure, that sounds good." I said. I hardly just met this girl and now we're going to have a sleepover. "If you want, we can swing by your house and get your stuff and you can sleepover at my house." I suggested.
"Alright, sounds cool." she said. Everyone kept using the word 'cool'. I have no idea what that means. Maybe like...good or fun.
We arrived at my house about an hour later. "Hey, mom! Tammy's spending the night." I said naturally. On the outside I tried to play it cool, but on the inside I was freaking out. My dad walked into the kitchen from the living room.
"Dad?" I asked. In my past life, or whatever, my parents spit up when I was 14. My dad moved out and it was just me and my mother.
"Hey sweetie," he said. "Hey, Tammy."
"Yeah, hey," I said quietly.
"Okay, hun." she said. I could get used to living in 2012. "Oh, by the way I have something for you two." she said searching for something.
"What is it?" we both said in unison. We exchanged smiles.
"Okay, I hope you guys don't have any plans for the winter because...I got you guys a chance to meet One Direction!" she said excitedly.
Tammy screamed and I mimicked her actions. I had no idea who One Direction were and what they did. I think they were the people on my walls.
"Oh my God, Mrs. T you're the best!" she screamed. "How could you afford these? I heard people sell their soul to the devil to even see them!"
"Just think of it as a gift, girls." she said with what seemed like sadness in her eyes. My life in this century must be completely different from in the last. "Your plane leaves tomorrow morning, so you two will have to go by Tammy's house again to pick up some clothes."
"How long's the trip?" I asked.
"Well, you guys are going from here, L.A, to London, England. You guys get to spend the whole break with them and meet them." she said.
Tammy looked as if she couldn't breathe. "Calm down, Tammy." I said to her.
"HOW CAN I CALM DOWN WHEN WE GET TO MEET ONE DIRECTION?" she screamed.
She cleared her throat, "Sorry...I lost my cool." she said.
"Can't lose what you never had..." I said.
"Hey!" she said, pushing my shoulder. "Let's go to my house and get my things now, so it's out of the way." she suggested.
"Okay, sounds cool." I said. I liked that word.
"I just can't believe that we're meeting One Direction." she said.
"Yeah...me too." I said. I was going to need to go to the library and find out just who One Direction are.
