Thank god 2 seconds later Sadie plops down next to me with her bright yellow beach towel.
I feel a fabric being settled beside me as air from underneath it blows to my face, my blonde hair flying all over the place. I groan, picking small strands of hair; tucking them behind my ear. I look up to see a beaming Sadie with a luminous smile taking over her mood. I sigh in relief. She drops her tote bag carelessly on her bright yellow towel before settling herself down. Her white lace dress is now gone, she probably put it away in her bag. She now has her sky blue bikini exposed that compliments her pale skin. She looks away from me, switching her eyes to the tote bag on her lap. She starts fishing her hands into the bag, shuffling her arms which shows that she's looking for something.
I glance back at the sight in front of me. Kyle and the other 20. I take a deep breath, stopping my heart from pounding my chest from the inside. I look back at Sadie who's already applying sun screen all over her arms and legs.
"Why does it look like they're walking towards us?" I ask, whispering, my voice coming out petrified than I wanted it to. Sadie turns her head to the crowd and let out a sigh up "My boyfriend, Justin hangs out with them. He's the only one I tolerate out of all of them." She chuckles as she closes the lid of the sunscreen. She sets it aside, the same time she changes her sitting position into cross cross applesauce. Her hair falls in front of her shoulder, she looks down which makes me notice how long her eyelashes are. She's beautiful. In fact, impossibly beautiful.
I flutter my lids shut, letting the heat of the sun soak into my skin to form a tan. Not even a minute later, I hear the sound of footsteps as the sand crunches beneath it. I open my eyes back to life, the brightness causing my sight to look like as if I entered heaven which only make me squint to fully restore my vision.
"Hey baby," A guy who I assume as Justin said. He kneels down before planting a kiss on Sadie's lips. Remember those 20 other people? They're not positioned as if they're in war anymore. Instead, they're cluttered around our area causing me to shift uncomfortably. Most of them just stood there awkwardly, some of them are rolling their eyes. All of the girls look like trouble and I sure as hell do NOT want to get involved with them.
The sound of wet smacking briefly fills the atmosphere as Sadie and Justin pull away from each other. Sadie gives a small caress on Justin's cheek before turning to me; Justin followed Sadie's gaze.
"Justin, this is Leila. We were really close when she used to stay here yearly." She lays a hand on my shoulder, looking back at her boyfriend with her usual beaming smile.
"Hey, nice to meet you." He smiles. I notice how a small dimple appear on the right side of his cheek when he did. The way he greeted me is nice, which automatically gives me the reason why Sadie liked him in the first place: because he's too nice for a guy.
"You too," I smile back only for it to dissolve seconds later when I spot Kyle behind him. I notice his eyes roaming on my torso and I suddenly feel my face flush in red.
"Leila, can i talk to you for a second?" He's looking at me in the eyes now. His hazel brown eyes, one of the features I liked for him. His eyes are so intense, gazing at me. No! Don't get lost don-
I'm lost.
"Leila?" My mind clears when I hear him call for me. I shake my head, enough to make my hair bounce forward. A puzzled expression consumes his face as he locks his arms against his chest. His shirt wrinkles when his arm ran across it.
What does he want now? A rush of curiosity washes over me. The same time my heart thumps against my chest like a dove pushing itself against the lock of its cage. I bite my lips.
"I guess." I manage to state, shrugging. As push myself from the ground, what feels like a legion of voices blends roughly together with a bunch of girls whispering when a guy from the distant whistles. Ew.
I dust off the sand that sticked itself against my skin while I was laying down. I turn towards Sadie to tell her I'll be back but she's engrossed with his boyfriend leaning towards her so seductively as he whispers something to her which she giggles and nods in response. I might as well leave them be, I know I won't be long.
I slide into my pink flip flops and start catching up with Kyle who already started walking away from the group of people circling the area. I struggle as my feet sinks into the sand when I try to fasten my pace.
"Hold on!" I call after him with the wind running past us, my hair flying all over the place. Thank God I didn't wear lipgloss today, strands of hair could've been stuck on my lips and that wouldn't be comfortable. Kyle, the asshole he is, still continues on walking, ignoring my comment.
Douchebag
Once we finally distanced ourselves from the group of people roaming around beside the shore, a rush of adrenaline runs through. My skin, damp from the sweat forming each second by the heat of the sun hitting us as if it's the most important thing in the world.
"Why are you wearing a 5 year olds bathing suit?"
"Excuse me?" My hand automatically placing itself on the center of my chest. I can feel my face forming an expression I use when I'm offended. And I definitely am right now. Who the fuck does he think he is?
"Looks like you just took a bathing suit off my baby cousin and put it on. Don't wear those." My eyebrows knit together, my forehead creasing at his insult. Does he not realize that this swimsuit I'm wearing is worth so much that it would make his jaw drop when I tell him?
"What the fuck, Kyle? You took me aside to lecture me on what not to wear?" I shout against the screaming wind and the loud waves in the background. "Yeah, screw that." I raise my eyebrows at him before I turn my back, my hair flipping back to its usual place and start heading back to my towel where Sadie and her boyfriend are still present. My blood boils in my veins that one of them could pop in any minute, I groan when I start to feel my feet ache as it still sinks down and a million pieces of sand comes resting on the pad of my flip flop, the bottom of my feet scrunching against it in pain.
Why do guys have to be so annoying? And why does Kyle care what i'm wearing? If I have the freedom to wear a bikini without my brother complaining about it, I'll wear it like it's nobody's business. I have the right to cloth my body with any pieces I want. Tight, baggy, revealing. ANYTHING.
"Kyle!" I hear a feminine voice call. I halt my tracks, my head spinning around to see who it was and it's a brunette with beautiful long, shiny, brown hair that reaches her petite waist. She has a healthy golden tan that glows luminously and I inspect her for flaws or just a single tan line and she doesn't even have one. She's even, her elegant features beams against the sun. Kyle turns to her as she flawlessly walks towards him. "Baby, we have to go." She says, wrapping her hand around his bicep, caressing it as she looks up at him.
Holy fuck. So Kyle has a girlfriend now.
