Chapter 1: Ruby Rose

(Y/N's pov) 

After I changed and had breakfast, the four of us headed to town. Specifically the city of Vale. We could've gotten everything at a town closer to home, but Tai insisted that with Vale there's more variety in the stores that Yang and I could choose from. So we hopped on a bullhead to get to Vale.

(Y/N): Hey, Ruby!

Ruby: What is it (Y/N)?  

(Y/N): When we get to Vale want to help me pick out school supplies?  

Ruby: Sure! I would love to do that.

We later arrived at Vale, we all went to the Vale city mall. Which was an outlet strip that is completely filled with stores.

Taiyang: Okay, since we are at the mall. It will be much easier if I let you go to the stores yourselves. But I want all of you back here in this spot in 1 hour. Do you understand?

Ruby: Okay Dad!

Yang: Sounds good to me.

(Y/N): If that makes things easier then I'm all for it.

Yang quickly ran off by herself to one of the clothing stores. And Tai went to the lounge area of the mall reading a magazine. Which left Ruby and I by ourselves. 

(Y/N): So... Where do you want to go first?  

Ruby: Oh, it doesn't matter to me since you're the one in need of new school supplies.

We were walking around and ended up in a department store. Which was the perfect place I needed for finding school supplies. Usually I hate shopping or having to go to the store to buy new things since I find it quite boring and it takes forever. But don't get me started on Yang when she goes on a shopping spree. Tai is alright but has lame hobbies (forgive me for saying that Summer.) With Ruby though, it's really fun. She knows my interests, we both share our love for weapons, and we both wanna be a huntsmen and huntress. 

Ruby: (Y/N)? What do you think of this ? *she shows me a black satchel like bag that she found.* I think it would go well with your look. 

(Y/N): Sure! It's perfect, It can perfectly hold all of my school books. 

Ruby: *sighs* I'm going to miss you and Yang when you all leave for Beacon. It's not going to feel the same once you're gone.

(Y/N): I know, I'm also going to miss you as well. But I will try and visit you when I can get the chance. You also just have to wait two more years before you can go to Beacon with us.

Ruby: Yeah, you got that right. I can use that as a goal to make sure I work my hardest to be the best huntress in training at Signal.

(Y/N): *pats Ruby on the shoulder.* How about you turn that frown upside down and help me finish shopping?

Ruby: *Snickers* That was really corny but it helped a lot. I'm glad to have you as my best friend (Y/N)! 

That last sentence really stung. Even though I been having romantic feelings for Ruby for a long time, she never reciprocated those same feelings. She thought of me as just a friend at first. Then when I was adopted into her family, she then kinda saw as a brother and it's been that way ever since. I've been wanting to tell her how I truly feel but I'm afraid that it'll destroy our current relationship. So for right now, I'm just playing it safe. 

(Y/N): Yeah, me too.

Meanwhile...

After quite a bit of time had passed by, we found all I needed to be ready for Beacon and so we proceeded to the checkout station. I payed for all the items. 

Cashier: Thanks for coming, hope you have a wonderful rest of the day! And by the way you two look really cute together!

Me and Ruby both instantly blushed at the comment.

Ruby: Oh, uh... We actually aren't a couple. We are just two friends that live together. *she smiles* 

(Y/N): Ruby, you made it sound a lot worse! What see meant was that I was adopted into her family. 

Ruby: *embarrassed* Yeah! Yeah, that's what I acutally meant. 

Cashier: Oops, sorry for the misunderstanding.

Ruby: No, it's not a problem, well anyways see you next time!

We both left the store and I opened my scroll to see how much time we had left before having to meet up with Tai. I looked at the time and I realized that we only had two minutes left.

(Y/N): Ruby, we only have two minutes left! Tai is gonna kill me!

Ruby: We can use our semblances to get there in time. I'll race you! *she burst into rose petals as she went zooming past shoppers.*

(Y/N): Don't think I'm gonna let you off the hook that easily! * I then started running in which I looked like a black blur in the eyes of an person.*

We both raced each other all the way to the lounge until we both suddenly stopped in front of Tai and Yang.

Taiyang: Woah! Take it easy you almost gave me a heart attack.

Ruby/(Y/N): I totally won that! What, you? No way, I was the clear victor.

Yang: Both of you won. You both got here at the same time.

(Y/N): Well, it might've been a tie this time but next time I'm totally beating you.

Ruby: Tough words from someone who's afraid of the Easter bunny.

(Y/N): Can you please don't bring that up?! You remembered what happened in Easter that year! 

Taiyang: Okay, calm down you two. From the looks of it we got everything that we needed. So I suppose we should go.

The four of us all agreed was and was walking to a Bullhead to take us back to Patch since it was getting dark. Then Ruby let out a gasp as if she forgot something.

Ruby: *Gasps* I forgot that I'm running low on Dust! Dad, can I go to the local Dust shop to get a new batch of Dust?

Taiyang: But if you do you'll have to go on another ride by yourself.

(Y/N): Don't worry about it Tai. I'll go with her. It's not that far from here. You and Yang can head on home.

Taiyang: That does sounds reasonable, but if something happens then you call me. I'm trusting you with my girl, (Y/N) don't make me regret it.

(Y/N): Of course you can trust me Tai! Whenever I have not been trustworthy?

Taiyang: You almost burned down the house when baking heart-shaped cookies for Valentines day.

(Y/N): Hey, it was that one time. And anyway Summer did teach me how to stop, drop, and roll!

So we went our separate ways as Ruby and I went to the Dust shop From Dust Till Dawn unknowing of what fate would we have in store that would change our lives forever...
