Chapter 1: Quinton.
There are a few things in life I have seen or done that I can’t tell anyone about, not because I am ashamed of it or scared of what people might think, because they would never believe me if I told them. An event such as that happened to me just last night.
Chapter 2: Quinton Ira McKenzie.
My Name is Quinton Ira McKenzie. I’m 26 of average height and weight with dark brown eyes and medium brown hair, I’m a smoker, haven’t gone a day without a cigarette since I was 13, I grew up right here in the small town of Soft Spring Falls. I’m the only son and child for that matter of Irene and Ira McKenzie. Yep Irene and Ira, I live on Paradise road, My parents live on paradise road, my grandparents do to, As do all my all my cousins, aunts and uncles , they might as well rename the road McKenzie Lane or Shaw Street, the Shaw’s are my mother’s side of the family of course. Its an easy road to find just head west on highway 6 and just when you thing you have left the town you take a right on and you’re on the road.
The town is forested as is much of the surrounding land it is protected wildlife reserve known as paradise woods. The nearest city is three hours away and jobs are not abundant here. My family owns the local grocery store and a small bed and breakfast that exists on the second floor of the grocery store. They are not rich people but they can pay the bills and put food on the table.
I took a different course in life and there is small amount about of tension because of it. I moved to the city after high school and went to university, now I work in Paradise woods as a wildlife biologist. I love spending my time outdoors. In fact when I am not at work I am usually in the reserve hiking, hanging out or just relaxing by the falls. I do my best thinking there, I read the best books there. Contrary to my disgusting smoking habit I’m in pretty good shape. I ride my bike to work every day until the road gets to icy. The reserve isn’t far from my house just continue down paradice road and in about 10 minutes by bike you will see two log cabin structures with a cosway across the highway that connect the two buildings on the horizon this is the public entrance gate and also the offices for the staff. I work in the building on the left.
About a year ago I purchased my house the cost of land in soft spring falls is dirt cheap. I lived with my parents for three years after college to save money, in the end I managed to purchase this out flat out and I live mortgage free. It’s a 40 year old two story 3 bedroom 2.5 bathroom home on 10 acres of property much of which is forested, there is a nice river on my land that flow from the waterfall. When you purchase a house on the road that your entire family lives on. There is a lot of judgement and unwelcome critiquing of your ability to maintain your property in the “correct” way. In an attempt to not have to hear about it I spend a large amount of time doing yard work.
This accounts for most of the time accept for Friday nights and it was a Friday evening that this strange event occurred. There is one bar in town “The Wacky Woodsmen” It a bar and small brewery owned and operated by the Deitner Family. Hailing from Freiberg Germany they moved here about 15 years ago after visiting the reserve on vacation and deciding that they could never leave. They took over the wacky woodsman which at the time was a rundown bar with a cave like atmosphere, added a brewery and renovated it. To this day everyone of drinking age gets together on Friday to share drinks and laughter, shoot some pool and get in the odd fight.
Bernard Deitner was a well know brewer in Freiberg and is a celebrated brewer in Soft Spring Falls. He is middle aged with brown hair and full beard greying in a way that makes him look distinguished. Not a tall man standing 5’6 inches and the body of a brewer who has enjoyed the fruits of his labor. Bernard brews his beer to the Reinheitsgebot order which is a law in Germany that protect beer purity. This means the only ingredients used Bernard’s Beer are water, barley and hops. All beer at the Wacky woodsmen is on tap and is brewed in house. The types vary from week to week but there is always at least one each wheat beer, pale beer and dark beer, every one with name more unpronounceable then the last.
