Prologue

I woke to an unearthly shatter that shook my bed. My eyes were barley open to see that my unusual, but stunningly clever friend (I say that in a sarcastic way), Melaney, threw a rock at my window to wake me up. Melaney was the type of person who if you didn't watch, would end up in New York City in the middle of the night because she "got lost". This stunt was typical of Melaney. I rely on her to drag me out of my house in the morning for school. I get up to see Melaney standing right beside my bed, which almost gave me a heart attack because usually she just waits on my porch until I come down. "So what's the plan for today sleepyhead, because I have the perfect person who is on board to come with us into Canada today!" said Melaney, "It's Finn from our AP Calculus class!". Finn was the new, might I say gorgeous, student in our school who transferred from the Netherlands. Me and every other girl at Greenery Prepatory School know that he could be Ansel Elgort's brother. He has the perfect A-line cheekbone, and his hair looks like he had a five-hundred dollar hair appointment, but he claims it runs in the family. "Did he even ask you or are you just assuming that you could win him over with your charm?", I said. Melaney replied with, "No, he messaged me on twitter and asked,of course I said we have a waiting list, you know acting funny and trying to lighten the mood.". In our school, Melaney is like the twitter queen, she knows everthing that is happening in everyone's lives. It gets a little out of hand sometimes, but some of the stories she tells me are funny to the point I get dehydrated from not drinking water for the thirty minute "laugh-fest". "Did you tell him he could come along?", I asked. "Of course I did, even the stupidest girl on Earth wouldn't reject an offer from the most dashing guy in school!" she said. I told her my parents should be downstairs getting breakfast if she wanted any. As usual she ran downstairs because she knew my mom would be making her famous "Kingster Family Eggs" that have been passed from generation to generation, so to say. I am pretty convinced that she got the recipe off of the back of the Egg Beater carton. In the meantime I got dressed, contemplated on what I needed to pack in my car in case something went wrong on our trip, and texted Finn to see what is plans were. I figured he wouldn't respond since his parents were extremely strict on the "No cell phone before school" rule. I knew I had to get downstairs fast before Melaney inhaled all of the eggs.

As we left the house, I told my parent the usual "talk" about how I won't talk to strangers, and I will be sure to be back before Monday, and I will call them every night, etc.. My parents always worried about me when ai went on trips like these even though they spent the whole weekend in The Hamptons on Long Island. They noticed that I went so often that they bought a "family" camper, one that I mainly use. As Melaney and I set off for school, I remembered that it was only a half-day today due to the end of the semester. The end of the semester means snow for Watertown. It feels as if it never gets above freezing during the Winter and there is snow on the ground until May!

When we turn into school I noticed that this after today, it was the beginning of the ever-so awful (again sarcasticness) last week before our four-week long Winter vacation.
