CHAPTER ONEThe sky was dark and the air cool on the cold september morning that would change Aiyana's life completely. The harsh wind whistled in her freezing ears. She didn't care, wind was normal for her. She knew all about the harsh wind and freezing temperatures and how they could easily kill her if she was out and vulnerable to them.None of this mattered to Aiyana, for she was determined.
She had been voyaging around the arctic ocean for months. She had nearly died almost daily. She was following a family of unknown sharks when a treacherous and unexpected storm came and blew out her radio and GPS, leaving her stranded and sharkless. She had no way of knowing north from south of left from right. She was just a tiny speck in the middle of an ocean full of unknown creatures. Deep down Aiyana knew that she was lost was lost but she wouldn't think about it. She missed her family and her beautiful daughter and that was all of the motivation that she needed to keep moving.
She thought about her daughter every second of every hour. She was all of her happiness and so much more. She cried herself to sleep and regretted ever boarding this darned boat. Aiyana was very pretty, but over the past months she lost all interest in her beauty.
Her once silky brown hair was now waist length and had so many knots that it was like a maze. She was at least 20 pounds thinner than she was when she had left for her voyage and the twinkle in her eye was gone, she was dreaming of her family every night and how upset they are for her leaving and never coming back. She dreamed that her daughter forgot her and her mother is unforgiving.
2 months passed of her living like this when she gave up on her journey. She had no hope of getting to her daughter. She gave up.-or at least she was about to when a ship appeared in the corner of her eye. She was saved.
She boarded the ship hastily and was introduced to a tall man with black clean hair and coal black eyes. He introduced himself as Captain John Hendrickson of The Barracuda. To the left of him stood a muscular man with tanned skin and cloudy blue eyes. Captain John introduced him as Jonah MaKoey, first mate of The Barracuda. Aiyana introduced herself as Aiyana Sylvester, voyager of the Arctic ocean. To the left of Jonah a young woman approached, wearing a sour expression. She grabbed Jonah's arm harshly and pulled him to the side of the boat.
"And that would be Veronica, Jonah's girlfriend" the Captain explained, making a disgusted expression on his face. He introduced 3 of the other shipmates as David, Kaia, and Hercules. Aiyana assumed them to be triplets, judging by their matching emerald green eyes and messy blond hair.
After the Captain introduced a few more shipmates, he lead Aiyana towards a wooden door with gold trim along the sides. He said it was her room. Inside was a small bed and bedside table, along with a medium sized wardrobe and desk sitting in the corner. The Captain left and told her dinner would be served at sundown and that she should attend so she can meet more of the shipmates. She accepted the offer. And he left the room, closing the small wood and gold door behind him.
Aiyana walked over to the wooden desk. On it lay a small silver key.She examined the key in her hand and set it back down. She found herself looking at the wardrobe. She dragged her hand along the hard surface of it. Her hand grasped the silver handle and she pulled open the wooden door, revealing a bright variety of clothes.
Aiyana was still dressed in rags and decided to change her old clothes. She picked put a rather nice red dress that went down to her knees and paired it with a black leather jacket and some ankle high boots with silver buckles. She took hold of a light blue hair brush and brushed out her knatty waist length hair and inserted a red flower into it. She put golden hoop earrings in and a black sash around her waist. She hoped that she wouldn't stand out, which is why she was dressing like a pirate, otherwise she would've dressed like a proper girl should. After she was happy with her look, she closed the handsome wardrobe and continued her look around her room.
Her attention refocused to the key on the desk. She searched the room for a keyhole and found one in the small bedside tables drawer. She opened the lock and inside found a piece of parchment with the following written on it in black ink:
Dearest Aiyana,
It is a big regret for me that your first impression of me was as a dunderheaded doofus. I would like to redo our meet, if you are willing, please meet me in my room at the 11th hour. My room is the 3rd door to your left.
With hope of seeing you soon,
Jonah
Aiyana read the note silently before coming to a choice. She was so caught up in her thoughts that she hardly noticed the time that the clock on the wall read- 6:25! The sun would set any minute! She rushed the note back into the drawer and locked it, hiding the key under her pillow. Then she opened the door and swiftly went down the hallway and into the dining room where everyone was already gathered, everyone except Jonah.
