"What do you mean I can't go to the movies?", I said yelling at my mom.

"Honey it's the Fourth of July, you're not going to be cooped up in a dark building, while you could be playing with your cousins at the cook out", my mom said as she clipped on her earrings.

"Kendrick and Kendra are three years younger than me and they pick their noses", I said waving my hands through the air dramatically.

"I'll take 'em", I turned around to see my brother Terrence.

Terrence was the best. He was always really caring, and had great grades. Which is why he has a full scholarship to his dream college.

I ran to give him a hug, "really?"

"Yeah, you're a lot older than Kendra and Kendrick, and I know you're getting to the age where you want to hang out with your friends and stuff", he said ruffling my hair.

My mom sighed, "Terrence shouldn't you be packing, you leave for college in two days?"
"I finished early", he beamed.

"Are you sure baby?", she said crossing her arms.

"What's the worst that can happen?", he said leaning against the wall.

My mom shook her head, "you spoil that boy too much".

Terrence laughed before we began to head to the car he got for his sixteenth birthday.

We began to make our way to the movie theater.

"Where are your friends", he asked as we pulled up.

"Oh I just said they were coming so mom could say yes", I said laughing.

"Oh Tyrell", he said smiling that toothy grin at me.

"You wanna stay?", I asked him.

Terrence and I were always close.

I didn't mind him staying.

"Why not".

I wish he didn't.

Twenty minutes until the movie, two guys began to argue.

Someone tried calming them down, someone went to get security.

Minutes passed and the person nor security came back.

The fight began to escalate.

The bigger guy ended up pushing the thinner one.

"Don't put your hands on me again nigga", he begin to scream.

His body seemed to twitch, like he was on drugs.

It was a scary sight.

"Or what?", the bigger one threatened.

"I'll put some rounds in your fat ass!", he said reaching for his pocket.

"Where's the security guard?", I whispered to my brother.

"I don't know but he needs to hurry", he whispered back.

By the time we finished talking and looked back at the two goons my breathing sharpened.

The thinner guy had pulled a gun.

The air supply in the theater seemed to shorten.

"Okay that's it", my brother whispered.

"What no, give the security guard two more minutes!", I whisper shouted.

"I'll be right back Ty!", he whispered before pulling away from me.

He then made his way to the two guys.

"Hey put the gun away man, there's people in here who want to enjoy the movie!", he said in a chill tone.

He looked at me and winked.

"Does it look like a give a fuck?", the man shouted at Terrence.

"Come on put the gun away", he said as he reached for the guy.

A loud popping noise went off.

My heart stopped.

The man ran for the emergency exit.

Everyone began to shriek.

I ran down towards him.

"TERRENCE"

I picked his body up and sat him on my lap.

Blood was spilling everywhere.

He raised his blood covered hand to my face.

"Is everyone okay?", he asked as he took short sharp breaths.

"Yes, but we have to get you to the hospital Terrence!"

"See if I waited another two minutes, it would've been someone else"

"It should've been!"

He fought to say something, but all he could do was smile at me.

His hand dropped.

"Terrence"

"Terrence stop playing man"

"TERRENCE"
