Oh I wish with all my heart that your father were here to see you
"Collins, you've got yourself a letter, son!"
Erin looked up from his small steel mug of black coffee as his commander called his name. Erin quickly stood, taking the letter from his officer, saluting him as the gruff man left. Erin hurried back to the makeshift seat, a pile of dirt, that he and his newfound friend, William, sat upon.
"Who is that from?"
William asked curiously, craning his neck to see the loving cursive writing on the front. Erin smiled warmly as the familiar words scrawled across the front, reading the name of his fiancé; Victoria Johansson.
"My fiancé."
Erin answered proudly, carefully sliding his delicate finger under the envelope flap, opening it with care. He pulled out the neatly folded pink hazed paper, unfolding it gently. He smiled, seeing her careful cursive writing. He excitedly started to read the tender writing.

My love, I miss you so much. I cannot wait to see you again, my heart aches without you. To be completely honest, our bed is far too empty without you in it during the night. The boys have missed you so much, they ask after you every day. Lately, Cameron and Caleb have been crawling into bed with me every night so at least I am not alone. My stomach is so large now, I am so excited for our little baby. I think it will come soon, I hope you are here with me when I give birth. I love you so much, my sweetheart. Please, please stay safe for me and the boys.
