Adrien/Chat's POV

This is it, Adrien thought as he looked though the curtains, out into the crowd. New year, new fighters, new competition.

Two years ago today Adrien had had his first fight. For all of the 10 years that The Miraculous Fight Competition had been going for, none of them had ever seen a fighter such as Adrien.

Everyone at the fight wore masks to conceal their identity. When you first joined you chose an animal a name that would stick with you until you decided not to continue fighting. 

There were many competitors, ages ranging from early teens to late 50's, all categorised . This year there was only 16 competitors. Some Adrien knew and were friends with such as the fox, Rena Rouge, and the turtle, Carapace, but there are others that he hated, such as Queen Bee, Crower, and Squeak. He of course was the black cat, and went by the name of Chat Noir.

Chat looked at the list of people that he would be fighting.

- Chat Noir - the black cat. 

- Rena Rouge - the fox. 

- Carapace - the turtle.

- Queen Bee - the honeybee.

- Peacock - the peacock.

- Hawkmoth - the butterfly.

- Crower - the rooster.

- Bounder - the rabbit.

- Venom - the snake.

- Draconis - the dragon.

- Squeak - the mouse.

- Miss Piggy - the pig.

- Diget - the dog.

- Stone Heart - the ox.

- Stripes - the tiger.

- Ladybug - the ladybug. 

Chat knew that they were all his age due to the age rules of the competition, but Adrien only knew the civilian identities of his friends Rena and Carapace.

He had seen all of those names before, except one. "Ladybug"

Adrien was reining champion from the year before so he would have to fight first.

He could hear the voice of the commentator over the loudspeakers.

"And now, for the under 17's first match I present to you Chat Noir!!" 

The crowd cheered wildly as he stepped out in his usual black and green jacket with cat ears and black mask. After Chat had stepped into the ring and the crowd quieted down the commentator, the parrot began to tell the rules of the competition for the newcomers.

"Each week a new person will be chosen to fight. Then a volunteer from from the age group will step forward, or will be chosen to compete. There will be a leaderboard that will determine who will get into the finals. The more fights that you win the higher up on the leaderboard you'll be. At the end the top two will face off in the grand final. The winner of the fight will take home the trophy and will come back to fight first the following year, while the loser will have to show his or her identity to the winner." 

Chat's eyes scanned the group for Rena and Carapace. When he saw them, Rena gave him the thumbs up and a reassuring smile. Chat smiled back at them, with their fingers intertwined. He saw other familiar faces and masks, but one stood out to him.

She had short navy blue hair tied in two ponytails. She wore a bright red shirt with black dots, with a black undershirt, and black and red tracksuit pants. Matched with red and black sneakers.  

This he thought must be Ladybug.

"Now" the parrot said "Who would like to fight our reining champion, Chat Noir?"

Silence rang through the underground cavern.

"No one?"

Still quiet. 

Then a voice shattered the silence with a determined note.

"I will."
