Chapter 1

New Year

The first person to wake up on this special day, New Year, was Rovious. His parents were still asleep, because it was 6 in the morning. Rovious was a young teenager, 15. He had dark black hair and amazing brown eyes. At this time of the day, he wore bright blue pajamas. Rovious raced down the stairs of the house and opened the living room door, to find the christmas tree that the family decorated a few weeks ago. The city of Germosis was at its coldest yet, because it was a cold winter this year.

It wasn't long until Rovious' mum woke up, Elitrea. She was the wife of Thoussos and the mother of Rovious.

"New Year is it?" Elitrea asked smiling.

"Yeah and the town of Germosis is going to celebrate it." Rovious answered excitedly.

Rovious was a young teen that would never miss out on an opportunity to have fun. He is still childish though as he was raised a tiny bit spoiled, in a two story house that seemed like a mansion, he lived for 15 years.

"I'll make some breakfast, cheese toast?" That was Rovious' favorite dish in the morning. A loaf of bread that had been cut up into strips is placed in the toaster until it started to cook to be slightly brown, not black. Then a block of cheese is diced to small pieces and sprinkled over the warm piece of toast. It is baked for a short time and served to eat.

As Elitrea was preparing the breakfast, Rovious flicked through the channels, in search of something that will catch his attention. But something in fact did.

On the news channel, there was a report about huge snake tracks that were found near the highway at a coastal town, in fact a neighbor of Germosis, Triton. Snake holes were scattered everywhere and in fact two of the news crew members were sent to the hospital, due to snake attacks.

But as always when the screen switched back to its original host, Rovious turned the tv off to eat some breakfast in the dining room, that his mother prepared.

"So are we going to the town square today mum?" Rovious asked and dug into his plate of warm cheese toast.

"Sure, as long as...." she hasn't finished her sentence as dad walked into the room. Thoussos was a strong man with a small beard growing on his chin. If anyone was to be supporting the family, it was Thoussos.

"Greeat morning" he happily yelled stretching his arms.

"Great morning dad," Rovious replied, "So under what condition we can't go?"

"Me and dad are planning of organizing a family dinner, and if the shops are still opened we are staying and if the shops are closed we'll have take-away and go to the square. Deal?"

There was no point of arguing with Elitrea, she is like the brain of the family, Thoussos usually does all the work around the house, while Elitrea is the decision maker and the organizer.

In Rovious' favor the shops were closed, so disappointed Elitrea promised the family of going to the square that night.

It was a cold winter afternoon, Rovious was playing his PC when a sudden phone ring disrupted the silence. The teen boy cautiously approached the phone, as no one usually rings on his mobile phone, especially on a holiday. He picked up the phone and a voice scream.

"Hey, it's New Year's Eve, doing anything special?" a voice asked.

Of coarse, it was Criterrous, Rovious' only best friend, how did he manage to forget about him?

"Um...yeah, my family is going to the town square. What are you doing today?" Rovious replied.

"Uh...my mum is at my grand dad's place and my dad is at work, so I am so bored."

"Well, do you want to come with us to the town square?" Rovious asked not caring about his mother's opinion.

"Yes!!" Criterrous answered fast and unexpectedly.

"Ok, at 10.20 we will pick you up tonight." After they said bye to each other, they hanged up and Rovious went back to playing his video game.

At 10.20 as promised, a white car parked on the street where Criterrous lived. He was already waiting for the family to pick him up to go to the town square.

"Hey Criterrous!" Elitrea yelled out, as she was the driver at the moment.

Criterrous opened the door on the opposite side of Rovious. All buckled up, they were racing to the town square to get the best parking spot.

Eventually they got caught in a tragic jam, as there was a big queue at the celebration.

"ANY TIME TODAY!" Thoussos yelled out being really frustrated.

The car shook a little, only Rovious was the one to notice it.

"Wow, did you just feel that?"

"Feel what?" Criterrous was the first to reply. No one else felt it.

As the astonished teen looked out of the car window, he saw a few people getting out of the car, probably also noticing that the ground shook a little.

"There we go!" his mother yelled out breaking the silence in the car.

The family got out and stretched to feel the relief of sitting in a car for too long.

As Criterrous stepped out, he adjusted his glasses that he wore and put on a sweater. Criterrous had dark orange hair, wore nice stylish glasses and he was a little bit, fat. He was a little younger than Rovious, but still Criterrous was the same height as him.

The group walked up the centre of the town, called the town square. It was a nicely painted concrete square and huge bell tower right in the middle. The tower had time for 100 different cities around the world, including Athens, France, Moscow, London and Brazil.

As they were getting ready to sit down, the earth shook a bit harder and this time everyone noticed it, the car signals rang, most people were chatting about the event, but then they went back to organizing a seat on a chair, with a view to the bell tower.

Thoussos was carrying all the chairs and Elitrea was asking all of the family, including Criterrous if they're weren't cold or are they hungry.

It was about 11 by now, so Rovious heard as everyone got excited.

"Not long," Thoussos said, feeling warmed up and cozy, "Not long."
