*****

As weird as the men was, nobody thought it could get that messed up. Yup, the beast was the thing that broke their illusion of him being any sort of normal. The free ride they've got was also unexpected. A-Ta's hart raced all the way through - not that it wasn't on the verge of stopping already. From the moment the creature presented itself - those brilliant, snowy feathers and sleek, obsidian fur - Until they came down onto the ground, and it changed back into an ordinary falcon. As ordinary as a white falcon can be.

The flight itself was amazing. Though they were going at incredible speeds, only faint brushes of wind touched them. Though they were high up into the clouds, they felt no cold. Wings of the beast were so big, that A-Ta wondered if they spanned wider than the hall in the palace. They mounted the beast in the garden, because of its size. Its tail swingled behind them, helping with balance.

It all was like a dream. Beautiful, unreal. One day they were mere toys, and another day a new prospect gleamed in their faces. Of course, if it was true.

He looked at A-Hei resting in his arms. If it all wasn't a lie, then they will have a chance to be happy. They'd be together like a family. But, if it was a lie, then they would most probably die. He would die - he wouldn't allow her to die. Feeling the weight of that stolen dagger against his chest, A-Ta made a promise.

'I will give my life for you, if that's what could save you.'

Forgetting about his audience, he laid a small peck on her forehead. Yes, from now on, he will protect her. He will become stronger to make her happy.

To give her a brighter future.

...

They landed in a middle of a forest, moon providing only enough light to see the closest of trees. A-Ta chewed on his lips, eyes darting around, looking for anything that would indicate their safety. Only the black cloaked men, so perfectly melding with the surrounding, seemed unaffected by the darkness.

'Follow me.' the command startled A-Ta. Blinking out his stupor, he hurriedly stepped to the figure's side.

'Where are we going?' he asked, now pretty acquainted with speaking by his thoughts.

'To a... Hut? I don't really know what I'm supposed to say. You'll see in a minute anyway.'

A-Ta felt a chill run down his spine. His arms were starting to ache, so unused to the heaviness of another's body. His legs also began to wobble under the weight. He was tired. But tried his hardest to not show it, following the men closely. What if he decided to attack them? - Shimmered a thought in A-Ta's mind. When his hands started to shake, he brought back his reasoning from before. He had the chance to kill them all this time, why would he now? He saved them, which he was shameless enough to state. He could pressure them to come with him, not feed a lie. A lie so unbelievable, that it seemed true. And it always could be true, no one's to deny that. So, have hope, A-Ta.

Have hope...

They stopped in front of a small house - 'hut' perfectly described it. Is this it? - A-Ta couldn't understand. Was this disgrace of a house meant to fit all of them? What a joke! He glanced at the men, confused.

'Wait here,' said the men, and entered the hut. A soft creak sounded as he opened the door. When he shut them behind him, an eerie silence took over the group.

"He's weird," commented one of the younger boys. "Why can't he speak normally? My head hurts because of it!"

"He can't," a deep voice answered, giving them all heart attacks.
