John's Pov
The building in front of me was the biggest I had ever seen. Today was my first ever day in my new school after my family moved to Canada, even though it was half-way through the school year already. I walked into the building and was instantly disoriented. Just by walking in the front doors, I was already met with 3 long hallways, one going straight, and 1 on either side of me. I didn't see any kind of office area, so I chose a random hallway and began walking down it, hoping to find another student to help me. At the end of the hallway I had chosen, the one to my left, was a corner. As I turned it, I walked straight into a tall boy. He turned quickly to me and revealed a group of about 5 other boys that were standing with him, and they all looked very angry.
"Sorry about that. I was just lo-" He cut me off and starting speaking in a mocking tone.
"I was just, I was just! Save it, new kid. Watch where you're going." He said and pushed me a little. I took a few steps back from the group of boys that were now advancing towards me. Just as I walked into the wall behind me, I heard a voice.
"Hey, hey, hey. Come on now. Leave him alone or I'll get Mr. Evan to handle this." The voice said from behind the group, and they all stopped. The tall one that I had bumped into and pushed me sighed, rolled his eyes, and remade eye contact with me.
"We'll have to continue this later." He said in a low tone so that only he and I heard it. And with that, he and his whole group walked away from me, finally revealing my savior. The boy was about my height, maybe a little shorter, and had shockingly white hair. He smiled and walked toward me.
"You must be new here. I'm Jaren. And you are?" He held out his hand for me to shake. I accepted it hesitantly, still processing what had just happened.
"I'm John. Thanks for helping me with those guys. Who were they, anyway?" I asked and he sighed.
"Those guys are The Misfits. They are the meanest and most bloodthirsty friend group in this school. I would advise you to stay away from them, but I think they already gave you that impression. Anyway, is there anything else I can help you with? You seem a little confused." His voice was sweet and sincere, and it gave me butterflies in my stomach.
"Uh, yeah actually. Where is the main office? I don't even have a schedule yet." I replied and he nodded.
"It's this way. I'll show you." He said and led me all the way down to the office, which ended up being in the hallway on my right. We entered the office, and there was a secretary typing very quickly sitting behind a desk. She didn't even look up from the screen before asking,
"Are you the new kid?" Her voice was nasily and high pitched.
"Yeah," I replied, and she continued to type.
"Ok. MR.EVAN, THE NEW KID IS HERE!" She yelled and it startled both Jaren and I. The door behind her desk opened and a man in a full suit stepped out.
"Thank you, Janice." He said to the secretary and walked around the desk to face us. "You must be John, yes?" He asked, and I nodded. "Great. Here is your schedule," He handed me a small piece of paper covered in numbers and names. "and it looks like you have found a guide." He motioned toward Jaren. "I assume you can show John around and help him find where he needs to go?" He asked, and Jaren smiled.
"Yep. I have a study period right now, so I can help him." Jaren confirmed, and the principal nodded.
"Thank you, Mr. Smith. I will leave you two to it." He said and walked back into his office. Jaren grabbed my schedule out of my hands and began mentally comparing it to his own.
"Awesome! We have all the same classes, except for one. You're taking physics instead of biology. But, I have a friend in that class, and he's great. I'll tell him to be nice to you." He decided, and he started showing me around the school. After my first few classes with Jaren, it was lunchtime. He excitedly pulled me along with him all the way down the stairs to the cafeteria and led me to his table. There sat 3 other boys, already eating. I sat next to Jaren and waited for him to introduce me to them. He motioned to the boy sitting next to him and said,
"This is Jordan. Don't mind him, he eats like a slob."
"Hey!" Jordan replied with a heavy accent. "Don't expose me like that!" The other boys laughed, and I sat there, awkwardly.
"Anyway," Jaren pointed to the next guy, "This is Grizzy." He said matter of factly and I was confused.
"Grizzy?"
"That's my name, don't wear it out. Well, nickname at least." He answered quickly.
"And last, but certainly not least, this is Craig." He pointed to the last boy who waved at me while taking a bite of his sandwich. "He is the one you have physics with next period," Jaren added, and I waved back at Craig. "Boys, this is John. He's new and would have gotten killed by The Misfits if I hadn't saved him."
"Ugh, I hate those guys," Jordan remarked.
"Tell me about it. I bumped into the tall one by accident, and the whole group was ready to kill me." I added, and Grizzy snickered.
"Yep, that's Fitz for you. He's their leader, and I honestly think they would die for him. Which would be a nice thing, if they weren't also ready to kill someone for him too. They run this school like a gang, and it sucks." He lamented, and the other boys nodded in agreement. Craig finally finished his bite and spoke up.
"But now, you are apart of our group. The Misfits generally tend to leave us alone, as long as we don't anger them in any way. As nerdy as we may seem, we aren't the lowest on the school food chain. We aren't very high up on it either, so be careful." He said as the bell rang, sending us to next period. "Come on John, let's see if we can survive one of Mr. Oxx's lectures on electromagnets," I said goodbye to my new friends and walked up to Mr. Oxx's room with Craig. Apparently, Mr. Oxx was notorious for being late to class after lunch, so it left Craig and I a few minutes to talk.
"I really like Jaren. Do you know if he is... you know..." I asked and Craig looked at me suspiciously.
"Gay?"
"Well, I was gonna ask single, but that too."
"Technically, yes. He is single. And gay. But, as his best friend, I'm gonna advise you not to get too close to him. As happy and cheerful he looks on the outside, he's been through a lot this past year, and I don't think he's ready for a relationship. So sorry to kinda burst your bubble, but I think it's best for him for you two to just stay friends." He said just as Mr. Oxx entered the room. He turned to face the front of the classroom and left me a lot to think about.
You know I had to make a cliche "Highschool with bullies and unknown past trauma" au at some point. I really want to continue this storyline so expect more chapters soon. Also, I feel really bad that I keep making The Misfits the bad guys, but it had to be someone. Anyway, I hoped you enjoyed my all over the place writing, and as always, I hope you have a nice day/night, and you are lovely.
