Letting go

Rosie walked into the room, handing me some tissues to dry my face.

"You better clean your self up Angeline. The Hunters have requested a meeting with you."

I nodded before I forced myself up and picked out some fresh clothes. I settled for jeans and a t-shirt. I walked down the stairs, my wolf still wasn't happy with me walking away from the fight with Damien, but he saved me, I couldn't kill him.

I could hear the growls and shouts and threats before I reached the front door, i bolted outside to see Damien and Fane opposing eachother, both half changed. Their incisors were lengthened and their finger nails were extending into claws.

"What are you two doing!"

Fane noted my presence and returned back to his full human form, Damien slowly followed.

"Angeline, I'm sorry. I was concerned and I confronted him. It escalated. I apologise."

I stared them both down, "We have no time to fight eachother, we have a Harpie issue and now the Hunters want us involved. I suggest you put all issues concerning eachother aside and focus on the ones that concern us as a whole."

I turned my focus to Fane, "Have you gotten in touch with your father?"

"Not yet."

"Do so as soon as we get to the Hunters quarters. Alert him of your attack and ask him for permission to remain here until the issue is dealt with."

"Why should he remain here?" Damien jumped in, obviously not happy with my decision.

"Because Fane is the only one who knows his attackers and where he was attacked. We can use his help."

Damien grunted but backed down, slightly satisfied with my reasoning. Fane nodded to me.

"Let's go then."

.................

We arrived at the bookshop and headed down the tunnel into the meeting room, I was really getting sick of seeing this place. Caroline led Fane to another room so he could phone his father/alpha. Henry kept rubbing his hands together as he stood in a far corner.

"I'm so sorry Miss Valcourt. I have no idea what went wrong."

I smiled at him, "Henry please, it was a prototype, you couldn't have known."

"But you still shouldn't have risked it." Damien growled out. I growled back at him, before turning back to Henry, "Don't mind him, he's OVERLY protective."

Fane and Caroline returned to the room.

"How did it go?"

"My alpha agrees with your reasoning, but he insists on meeting you in person. He knew your father."

"Of course he did. Who doesn't know him?" I couldn't stop the words from coming out. Fane chuckled.

"He arrives here tomorrow afternoon. He will come to the hospital."

I nodded and turned to Caroline, "How is the harpie hunt going?"

"Not well, we don't have much in the way of leads."

"May I suggest something?"

"Of course Miss Valcourt." God the formalities were getting tiring.

"What if Fane attempted to show us where he was attacked, maybe I could try and pick up a scent? One of you could accompany us as a formality."

Caroline nodded, "It's better than nothing. Will can accompany you, that is if you're ok with that?"

I tried not to cringe, "No that is fine. We will move out this afternoon."

Caroline nodded again, "He will meet you at the hospital."

..................

We headed back to the hospital in silence, when we arrived I sent Fane inside and held Damien back.

"Look I'm sorry that I snapped at you but you need to pull your head in. Yes I know you knew my parents, no I didn't know them and Sebastian took that away from me. You could have killed him but I did instead. Yes Fane is Romanian and an heir to another pack but I've only been a wolf and an alpha for four months, I can't control my wolf nor do I know the law fully. Henry had no idea that the device would effect me like that, let him off the hook. Please Damien, just take it easy on me, I'm trying to catch up with this world as fast as I can."

Damien looked at the ground, "I know... I'm sorry, I just don't want to lose you like I lost your mother."

"Damien, I'm not my mother. You have to let her go."

He nodded, still looking at the ground but I could see him trying to keep from crying. I put my hands on his shoulders, "Damien, you're not going to lose me. But you have to let go of her in order to let me do my job."

He looked at me and smiled, "You know, as much as there is of your father in you, there is still a little hint of your mother."

I smiled back at him before I headed inside.
