For far longer than I can remember, I have been taking souls from their hosts and delivering them to either heaven's gates or to the River Styx and it's ferry-master Charon. I'm tired of it, I never get a thank you, people are always scared of me, and I have never had a lover; everyone I know has a mate except for me. I'm fed up, and I think I know what I'm going to do—I'm going to take a holiday. I've earned it after all these years. The only thing I need to do is find someone to cover me for a while...or forever.

I have been searching for the creatures to take over for me, and I think I've finally figured out who I wanted. I have been watching all the creatures; werewolves, vampires, demons, and witches, and I think that two demons named Elijah and Maggie are the best choice—Why? Because they are demons that are undervalued in the underworld, nothing exciting about either of them, but to me, I think that they will do the job properly and the way that I do it. I gather the soul collector handbook, my scythe, directions to where to enter the gates of hell as well as the gates of heaven. After getting my stuff, I leave my home and portal myself outside of Elijah and Maggie's cottage. I knock on the door, and Maggie is the one that answers.

"Can I help you?" she questions.

"Yes, my name is Declan. I am Death, and I have a proposition for you and your mate," I answer.

"What kind of proposition?" she questions further.

"If you please, I would rather discuss this in your home," I reply.

She thinks about it for a few moments and then invites me in. I thanked her and follow her towards the living room. She calls for Elijah, who comes instantly and asks me to have a seat.

"Hi, I'm Death but you can call me Declan," I say to Elijah, sitting and offering my hand for him to shake.

Hello, Declan," he greets.

"You said you have a proposition for us," Maggie reminds him.

"Ah, yes," I say. "You see, I'm actually quite tired of being Death, so I have decided to take a holiday. However, there needs to be someone to collect souls while I'm gone, and I have decided that you two will do nicely."

"What?" they both exclaim.

I chuckle and say, "I have been Death for far longer than I can remember. I am tired of it all, and I've decided that I need some time off."

"Why us? Why not some other creature?" Elijah questions.

"Because I have been watching you both for a while now, and I think that you will do the job properly and the way that I do it. I will help you for a week, and then after that, you are on your own till I get back. I have everything you need right here with me, so if you are ready, I'll get you all sorted as the new soul collector," I replied.
