"For god sake Auro, she can't stay here forever, we're not her keepers just merely her creators."
"I'm sorry Scarlet but we must look at this properly. How on Earth is she going to survive out in the wild, where will she go, who will look after her? This is not the most forgiving world Scarlet and we know that more than anyone."
"Please don't bring it up again." Scarlet said with a crack in her throat and a tear in her eye.
"I'm sorry, but it had to be done." Auro said letting her fall flat against his chest while putting his arm around her.
" We'll pull through, I promise. I...I just can't bear the thought of letting her go. The day we decided to put the past behind us and start a new life was the day I promised to keep our family safe from even the strongest evil and I can't do that once she's gone."
"I understand but she cannot stay with us forever and you know it, she will be turning 16 next week. As for safety I'm sure Zenthar or Drako will keep her safe. It's time Auro; time for her to explore the world and become an adventurer."
"But how will Larthax cope, he doesn't like anyone in the village, the only person he gets along with is his sister. I hate to admit it but the boy doesn't have any friends."
"He's perfectly happy as he is, without company and his sister is always hunting or exploring anyway. He'll also be leaving in two years time and it's not like she'll be gone forever anyway. In the first year nobody travels that far"
"Do you really expect that of her; this is Mia we're talking about, not some rebellious farmers daughter."
Larthax was watching from the stairs, inspecting his parents body language when they talked to see if they were really telling the truth. He had always been a strange boy, always feeling like he never belonged. He liked to think of himself as a philosophical genius which in truth he was but everyone saw him as a rather depressing character.
He did truly love his sister for she was the only one he could really talk to about things, except for the odd personal issue in which he consulted his mother with, but nonetheless he was was definitely going to miss his sister and he was certain she was going to miss him too.
"Well that's enough of that". Said Scarlet " I'm making supper soon and I want to make sure there is a reasonably pleasant atmosphere at the table."
"I agree but this conversation is not over. When they have both gone to bed we will carry on with the conversation and come to a final agreement by morning."
Larthax knew he was most certainly going to watch the rest of the argument and if he had the courage; reveal himself and put forward his own thoughts.
Just as this thought struck him it had seemed he had already been revealed. His father spotted him on the staircase but carried on preparing supper. Larthax was aware of this which caused him to retreact from his current position and slowly creep up the stairs.
When Larthax got to his room Mia burst in through the door.
"Oh hi mother, I was just hunting out in the woods."
"Was Drako with you?"
"No, he said he had business to deal with what ever that means. He's always doing something these days that doesn't give him time to hunt with me which is all he should be doing really since we're leaving soon."
Scarlet and Auro exchanged a look.
"Wheres Larthax?"
"I think he's in his room."
Mia got down and rushed up the stairs to see her brother, to find he was waiting for her at the top of the stairs.
"Hey Larthax, so you knew I was coming did you?"
"Of course I knew, I watched you burst in through the door, from my bedroom window, but I'm happy to see you."
Larthax gave his sister a welcoming hug.
"What was that for?" Mia asked with a suprised laugh.
"I'm going to miss you, that's all and I highly doubt you'll survive on your own without my knowledge of the world."
"Ha, the only knowledge you ever get is from books. Please, you've never taken a step beyond the village."
"That's the whole point of me reading the books, why would I ever need to seek knowledge outside when books by real adventurers are waiting for me here.
"You know when I become an adventurer I'm going to write a book called 'Stop reading books and go see stuff'."
"Larthax, Mia, supper's ready."
"We'll be down in a second." Mia shouted back.
"Wonder what we're having." Mia said while lunging out the door and sliding down the banister."
"Stew". Auro said
"Oh, well that required a little less of a dramatic entrance."
" I'm afraid it's all we've got."
"And all we ever have." Mia murmered
"Stew again?" Larhax said appearing from the bottom of the stairs. "Why doesn't Mia catch something and bring it back for us to eat instead of having it in the woods with Drako?"
"Because I caught it but looking at this it doesn't seem like I have much of a choice."
"Hey, thats my cooking you're talking about and you'll eat all of it otherwise I'll make you catch us three squirels for the family tomorrow and you won't be having any of it."
After supper Mia went out to the village with Larthax and Auro and Scarlet discussed the matter at hand.
"Have you accepted the fact that she's leaving?"
"I think I have but on one condition."
"What now?" Scarlet huffed.
"I will choose the route she must take for the first two months."
"And what route is this?"
"First she will travel to Borthack then make her way to Earond, from there she will seek guidance from my friend Sikho. Once this task is completed she may choose where to go."
