School was as boring as ever. It was simple, Carter got up in the morning, showered, dressed, and walked to school. He sat in the same boring classes everyday. Trigonometry, English, history, then it was time for lunch. Where he sat at his desk alone, not actually eating anything. Finally, it'd be the last three blocks of the day; Spanish, chemistry (which he spends the whole time looking out the window at 2-C's gym class... Mostly at Joan Graham, the soccer team's star player), and to end off the perfect day... Gym class! Which got him nice and energized to go home.
If it wasn't obvious, Carter didn't really like school. He'd much rather be at home, playing his guitar with his cat Fe. However, he had to go. It was boring, and he didn't have any friends. This was due to being not only half-Cuban but also half-demon. Which is double racist... Or racist and speciest... You'd expect people to be more open with the whole half-demon thing seeing as how the Universe if full of halves and several species, but demons are still the bad guys apparently in their books.
It wasn't always like that though. He had friends at first, in elementary school he had loads of friends, but then they grew up. After a while no one really got to know him, they only saw white eyes, fangs, and pointed ears. It was hard at first, but over time he got used to it. He did have friends over the years, other halves like him who didn't really fit in, but they always left. Drifted away, switched schools, just left. By the end he was always alone. Left behind.
When it first started happening he was seven. He came home from school that day and started yelling at his dad. He started blaming him for using all his friends, for being half-demon. Those vile words repeating through his head. The laughter and mocking voices of children. He stormed off to his room crying. He didn't really understand why being a demon was bad, but those words wouldn't stop running through his head.
FREAK.
MONSTER.
DEVIL.
ABOMINATION.
DISGUSTING.
He was only seven but he was already so alone.
His dad apologized the next day, telling Carter he was right. That it was his fault for making Carter's life so bad, so horrible. Carter started to cry again, realization of his words striking him, as he hugged his dad tight. He ended up staying home that day. It was a much needed father son day. And while this strengthened their bond, Carter was still alone.
After elementary school it wasn't really the fact that he was bullied, they merely ignored him. They pretended he didn't exist. And over all the years, he got used to being invisible, treated like air. Carter's hopes of making friends each school year lessened, until he gave up. He spent his time with music. At first listening, then playing for himself. By the time of his second year of high school he was quite good at guitar and used to being alone.
He would always be looking towards the future. A future where he'd hopefully not be alone anymore. He'd find someone. Someone to be with. It could be just a platonic relationship, or more. Either way he was fine with it. All he had to do was wait for that day. Survive til that day. He felt numb, looking forward to day that might never actually come, but that was all he had.
