"Shit." I cussed aloud. Frankly, I was surprised he hadn't realised sooner. But now he knew.
Ashton pointed to a photograph on the wall of myself, Cole, Daniel and Morgan rugby tackling Simon. I remembered the picture. It was taken about 10 years ago when we were little. We had spent a warm summers day playing rugby on the field behind our house. That was the first time I had ever broken a bone. Cole had tackled me minutes after the photo was taken and turns out I had broken my Ulna, my arm. Cole had given me the photo in a frame as a sorry present when I got home from the hospital hours later.
"Um, yeah." I admitted to Ash, he stood and looked at me for a moment.
"How did I not realise that?" He asked himself. I was thinking the same thing. "I mean, there are photos everywhere, you told me yesterday that you're dad is a music producer, you have a thorough British accent and you live in a house like this!" He put out his arms and motioned around the room.
"Well, now you know. But don't go 'round telling everyone, I sorta don't want people to know. That's why I'm a Mendes, not a Cowell."
"I promise," Ashton grinned, poking my back as we walked to the recording studio. I told Ash to stay outside in the hallway until I talked to my dad. I entered the studio.
Jade was back in the booth with the three other girls and the man, Shawn, was still there, sporting his headphones and fixing the recorder. Simon was leaned back in his swivel chair. He looked comfy, but tired.
"Cliff, we need some help." Simon started, "would you sing back up for the girls? Perrie had a sore throat." This was a request that my dad asked of me all the time. I was a good singer, not as good as Little Mix, but I had sung backup for Leona, Olly Murs and Cher Lloyd. I was also rewarded with a bit of cash now and then, so I loved the job.
"Sure." I suddenly remembered that Ashton good sing too, he had said he did some vocals for his bands sometimes. "Can my friend, Ashton sing too?"
"Can they sing?" Simon asked, rubbing his chin. I nodded. "Okay."
I celebrated internally and left the room to get Ashton.
"Hey, wanna sing backup for Little Mix?" I swear when I said this, Ash almost fainted.
"Are you for real?" He gaped.
"Yes, come on!" I grabbed his hand and pulled him into the studio. When Simon noticed him, Ashton choked on his breath. Simon stuck out his hand. Ashton took it and shuck it firmly.
"Mr. Cowell, you have no idea what an honour it is to even be I the same room as you..." Ashton stopped to catch his breath.
"Please, Ashton is it?" Ashton nodded, "call me Simon." Ashton let go of my fathers hand. It was white with a hint of purple when he pulled away.
"Breath, he's just my dad," I whispered in his ear, relaxing him a bit.
"Right, girls," Simon announced into a microphone meaning the girls in the booth could hear him, "this single is released in 4 days. We need to finish it." Simon let go of the mic.
"Get in there, Cliff," Simon paused, "and Ashton." Simon nodded his head approvingly of Ashton. I lead ash into the booth before he whispered in my ear.
"I had a huge crush on Jade when they were on X Factor." I snickered at it, I had to cover my mouth incase I laughed to loud.
We greeted the girls and put on our head phones after they had told us what to sing. Ashton was a great singer, he disagreed of course. The song wasn't his forte though, he was singing as high as he could at most parts but was bass in the background for a good bit of the song.
