I wake up. I'm still in Luke's bed, he blinks sleepily. He smiles when he see's I'm awake. "Mornin!"

I groan in protest, and throw a pillow over my head. "What time is it?"

He shrugs "almost one."

"In the afternoon?"

"Yah, ever since they stuck that needle in me they've been pretty cool"

I smile, always the class clown.

"I should probably get back."

He nods. And pauses cocking his head, like a parrot. I raise an eyebrow.

"You have an eyelash right, there"

He says pointing to the bridge of my nose. I blush, oh GAWD. Why now, stupid luck. I cross my eyes trying to see what he was referring to. He gets closer, and reaches out a hand. He slips it under my chin, and presses his lips to mine. I kiss back, full force. Not just any passionate kiss. But, an "I've been waiting kiss" and oh boy, have I been waiting. He pulls back, and laughs. Realizing I still had my eyes crossed, I giggle nervously and uncross them immediately.

"I'm hungry." I pout, feeling the empty ness of my stomach.

"I," he declares grinning proudly "am satisfied."

I feel the heat rush to my face, he smirks and strokes my cheek.

"Let us eat!" He raised a hand to the air and yelled. He held out his arm, I take it. "Gladly" I smile hopping out of bed. We walk in our pajamas towards the cafeteria hand in hand.

----

We were 20 minuets late for gym. I don't care, I'm here, they can't punish us more than that. At least, not legally.

We walk in, Luke was babbling on about some girl who tried to sneak in scissors. -when Luke does talk, he can be quite the chatter box- but I wasn't listening, I was thinking of my dream from last night. My "Demond's" weren't in it, they're usually everywhere, they still follow me. But I don't like to talk about it, even to kelly. I notice Luke has stopped talking, he has stopped entirely. He backs up, and releases my hand. His eyes widen and he screams. He gasps for air, and screams again he crawls on his hands and knees into a corner, like a caged animal. His face goes slack and he slumps against the wall. I'm in frantics "what the fuck? What the fuck?! he needs help!!" The coaches are already hoisting him up into their arms. I hold his hand, crying, I whisper "it's going to be okay, it's going to be okay." Not really telling him, but reassuring me.

----

The next time I see him, he is hooked up to a scary set of machines and tubes. His chest rises and falls. He is going to be okay. For now. I sigh in relief and run my hand through his silky hair. I see a nurse "oh hi!" I wave

"Hello? Do you know what happened to him?" She shakes her head and starts to the door. "Hello? Ma'am? Hello?" She still doesn't reply "Nobody ignores me bitch." I grab her shoulder an she spins around her face twisted into a snarl, her eyes, slits. "You!!" I point accusingly. She grins happy that I recognize her. "Me" she laughs, and pulls out a knife, no not a knife. A fork. She pushes me to the floor and straddles me. "Well this escalated quickly" she laughs as I say this. I squeeze my eyes shut, bracing my self for the pain. Maybe she'll go away. I open my eyes, no such luck. A sudden pain in my left eye causes my to jolt them shut again. "Shit shit shit shit shit SHIT SHIT!!!!" I grab my eye, red spots clot my vision "FUCK! THAT HURT!" she sits on my chest, i gasp in agony and rake my nails along her sides "get the fuck off of ME!" I kick and squirm. She doesn't budge. I feel my lungs collapse. I let my hands fall, and I lay. I wake up, I open my eyes. I blink, I can't see out of my left. I scrape at my eyelid, frantically trying to open it. To my disappointment, it is open. I still see darkness. "IM BLIND!" I wale at the top of my lungs. A nurse, in navy blue sweatpants appears, "I'm sorry dear. It's true. We tried to repair it, but the cornea was badly damaged. and we really can't do anything with eyes."

I shake my head "no. No. NO, NO, NO! I can't be blind! I don't wanna!"

"Well, if it wasn't for-" her voice falters and she drops the subject.

"Wasn't for what? TELL ME!" I sit up yelling.

"If it wasn't for Luke. If he hadn't pressed the buzzer, we would've seen you in worse condition. any later and we would have to get it taken out."

"Luke!" I look around the small Emergency Room. I find another bed to my left has a body in it. The shape moves under the covers. I jump up, a massive headache forces me to sit back down. The nurse lays me onto the bed and examines my eye "we should probably patch that up" she says pulling out a roll of gauze and scissors out if a locked cabinet. She wraps the gauze across the side of my head, she then popped a pill into my mouth and coaxed me to drink some water. "You'll feel better after a goodnights rest" I roll my eyes -or at least I tried- and marched over to the other bed. I poke his head demandingly, tired of being told around. "Wake up. Now" his green eye peeks at me from under the curtain of blonde hair covering his face. Both eyes pop open and he sits up smiling. I melt, I can't stand being angry around him. "sorry"

he points at my bandages and raises an eyebrow.

"In blind." I say loudly and glare at the nurse, she avoids my gaze by swiping away at an already clean table with a rag. Just then kelly walks in, slowly, carefully, like a lion among deer. She beckons Luke over to the corner of the room. He gets up with the same caution, obviously confused. She starts talking, gradually, his face falls. And he nods. She pushes through the door, she glances back and flashes me a sad look before it closes.

Luke walks back, but not with his usual bounce, but like a defeated man. He pulls out a paper and begins writing.

"I'm permanently, mute."

I swallow. Then the tears start falling, but it's not me in his arms, but him in mine, As the quiet sobs roll through his body.

After a while, there are no more tears to cry, and he stares blankly at the white stone wall.
