Nei sat up in bed with a start. His alarm on his Poke-Phone was blaring loudly and his head ache was pounding with each reverberating blare of the alarm. "Oh, shut it." he grumbles, snatch up the device from his bed stand and shutting off the alarm. He groggily got up and started dressing in a simple pair of jeans and a tee before having the mind to grab a coat and slip his Poke-Phone into his pocket before heading downstairs. He entered the living room and saw his mom in the open kitchen. "Oh, there you are honey! Hurry up and eat so you can go to the professor's lab." she said, laying a plate of eggs, bacon, and toast that was piled mile high. The mention of the professor made him remember the plans of the day. "Oh, thats right! Today the professor wanted to talk to Oni, Kira and me, right?" he says, in the process of shoving a large amount of toast and egg into his mouth. With a nod from his mother, he quickly ate through the rest of his plate quickly. He hurried over to the door and grabbed his running shoes from their resting place and slipped them on quickly. With a rushed goodbye to his mother, he grabbed his messenger bag from its hook beside the door and ran outside to get to the lab on time.
Sprinting in a full on manner, he arrived at the lab in time to see his friends, Oni and Kira walking up. Oni was wearing his formal attire of black suit, white dress shirt, and black messenger bag at his side. Oni was always one for a formal dressing, even during a unnecessary time. His black hair fit with his suit and bag perfectly. Kira couldn't be more different. She always wore casual clothing, and today was no different. A simple set of jeans and white shirt with a small puffy coat over it was what she wore, with her plain, modest purse over her shoulder. Her blonde hair was thick and curly, and her brown eyes were soft and always sparkling. Seeing them, Nei, ruffled his golden hair and smiled, calling out to them. "Hey, you guys!" he calls out, getting their attention. Kira turned first, and greeted him with a smile and happy wave. Oni smirked, and waved casually at Nei. He walked up to them and did the normal greetings, asking how they been with the normal reply of good. "Any idea why the professor wants us today?" Kira asked, looking from Nei to Oni and back again. "Not a clue." Oni said. Nei shrugged. "Maybe hes going to offer us a job as lab assistants." he said, and all of them busted up laughing at this idea. None of them had a knack for science, and anytime they had tried to help at the lab, it generally ended badly. Especially if Nei or Kira were involved with anything to do with chemicals. But, as they regained their composer, they began to head inside the lab.
As soon as they opened the door, they were greeted by the sounds of the sizzling of chemicals, the beeps of a computer, and the sharp tap taping of dress shoes on the hard tile floor from the lab assistants. Upon entering, none of the lab assistants noticed them. But the professor looked up from his computer to see who had entered, and smiled at the children when he recognized them. "Children! So good to see you." Professor Redwood said. He was middle aged, with a mop of reddish-brown hair on his head. that was unkempt from weeks of not leaving for a haircut, but it was kept clean. His blue eyes were a stark contrast to his hair. His lab coat was pristine, his white shirt clean of smudges, his black plants newly pressed. He looked rather dapper for a man wearing a lab coat. "Come here, come here. I have something I'd like to show you." he said, motioning for them to come towards the back of the lab. They all moved towards the back, careful not to bump anything. As the approached the back, they saw that there was three Poke-Balls lying on a table. There was a card in front of each of them, each card with their names on them. "Poke balls? With our names? You'r not giving us what I think you are giving us, are you, Professor?" Oni said, his surprise clearly on his face. Normally, he kept a calm, collected face no matter the situation, but it was a life long dream of his to get a Pokemon. He never thought he'd actually get one though. Nei knew this. But there was one thing that struck him as odd. "Wait. Normally, isn't there a choice in first Pokemon? Like out of three different Pokemon from the fire, water, and leaf types?" Nei asked, confused. "Normally, yes. But, I've done some research. And determined the best starters for you. They won't be your average starter either. Each one is a type that matches your personalities, so they will grow closer to you easier. Supposedly. Its a theory I'd like to test." the Professor said, smiling kindly at the kids. "Hold on. You want us to have no choice in our Pokemon that we raise?" Oni said, disappointed. "And then what?" Professor Redwood chuckled. "Of course not. I want you to go out and see the world. Catch more Pokemon. Beat the gyms. Live as you will. This is your ticket out of town. WIll you take it or not?"
"Of course!" Nei said, excitement flowing through him. "Its like those random luck games. You get what you get, and live with it. I like that. I accept, Professor." he walked over to the table and grabbed his Poke ball. But right before releasing the Pokemon, the Professor stopped him. "Nei, hold on. I want you to open yours last. Omi, Kira, will you take my offer?" the Professor asked them, looking at them both. Kira decide then and there that she'd take the offer as well. Oni was a bit reluctant, but agree'd eventually. The Professor smiled. "Great! Oni, your's first, please."
Oni tossed his Poke ball in the air and gave the "Come on out!" to call out his Pokemon. The ball released a white Pokemon on all fours, a black face and paws, with a strange crescent shaped item extruding from his forehead. "That's Absol, a Dark Type Pokemon. Its said to predict disaster and warn people of them. I think it fits perfectly for you." the Professor said, chuckling as the Absol walked over to Omi and rubbed its head against his leg. "Its... uh... great. Boy or girl?" Oni asked, looking at the Pokemon with a soft kindness in his eyes he got when looking at something or someone who needed help. "A boy. I would like to know if you want to give it a nickname, but first, let's see everyone else's Pokemon."
"Kira, you next." he said, motioning for her to release the Pokemon from its ball. Kira got extremely excited and fumbled with her ball for a moment but managed to release it from it's Poke ball in a white flash, similar to the others. At first, no one saw where the Pokemon was, but as soon as they looked lower to the ground, they were astounded to see what hey did. What looked like a a very small child, only about a foot high in a over sized white dress, with a oversized green hat with red horn-like items on it. Kira almost feel over, she was instant enamoured with it. "That's Ralts, a Psychic-Fairy type Pokemon. It can sense emotions with it's horns. It likes to appear to trainers that are happy, as it makes them happy to be around that emotion." the Professor said, but before he could continue, Kira swept up the Ralts into her arms. "Oh, its so cute! I l love it! Thank you, Professor!" she said, hugging it to her chest. "That's Kira for you... first cute Pokemon she sees, shes in love with it." Oni said, kneeling by his Absol and scratching behind it's neck. "Uh, incase your wondering, Kira, the Ralts a female. Anyway. I think its your turn Nei. You've waited long enough."
Nei fist pumped. "Finally! Wonder what its going to be? Maybe a dragon... oh, maybe a really strong fighting type.." Nei started, but before he could go off on a tangent, Oni stopped him. "Well, don't sit there and wonder about it. Call it out!" he said, and that brought Nei back to reality. "Yeah, I should. Let's do this.... Come on out!" he said, through his Poke Ball, and with the white flash, the Pokemon popped out with a happy call. It was a good height above Kira's Ralts, so it was about 2 feet tall. It was a pale green with some white tusk protuding from its mouth. "This is your pokemon Nei. Axew. A Dragon type pokemon, its considered by many to be the strongest of the types. I personally find they all have their uses, but anyway. Those tusk have a tendency to break, but if they do, they grow back stronger. So don't worry. Its good that they break." He said. Axew took one look at Nei, and began to waddle over to him. When it got to his legs, it began to climb up his leg and eventually got to his shoulder and sat on it with a soft Axew! before being quiet. "He's a boy. Anywho. I'd like to see your Poke-Phones please." he added. "Why?" Kira instantly said, unwilling to give up her phone, that she was currently using to take tons of pictures of her Ralts. "So I can add a new application that most people don't get. Its only really for the researchers, but i can give it to you because of the fact im using you in a research project." he rambled on, before Oni could catch his attention. "What app, Professor?" he said, attempting to reel the professor back in. "Oh yes! Its the Poke-Phonedex. Its like the Pokedex, but instead of having to catch everything yourself, you can view the Pokemon's data almost instantaniously via a quick picture of the Pokemon." he said, smiling. "Its of my own creation. Anyway, Poke-Phones please?"
After handing over their Poke-Phones and having the app downloaded into them, they got them back. "Ok, so now what?" Nei said, curious on what to do. Oni reacted first. "I say, we battle. Me, you. Pokemon trainer on Pokemon trainer. Agreed?" he asks
"Sure Oni. Lets do this!" Nei said, looking at his Axew. "You ready?" he ask it, smiling at him. It nodded. "Good. We're ready. Let's start this."
