"RING, RING, RING"
9th period was over. Olivia gathered her books and walked outside to the busy streets of Manhattan. The cars honking the people screaming and yelling. Yup, you could definitely tell this was Manhattan. She walked down the street by herself because of course her mom didn't bother driving to come get Olivia from school, she was probably too busy yelling at her dad. Olivia put her headphones in and started listening to music, then her best friend, Harper, came up behind her and she jumped like any person would in Manhattan. Then Harper told Olivia she was going to walk home with her.
"Harper, come on you know my parents would flip you came over!" Olivia exclaimed.
"I know your parents are still fighting, so why not come to my house?"
"Yeah it's not like they'll notice I'm gone anyways." Olivia replied.
"Yeah they would Liv," Harper reasured her.
Olivia and Harper walked in silence, each girl thinking about their families.
"Is it okay with your mom if I come over?" Olivia asked. "I don't want to hear anymore fighting than I have to."
"Honestly, my mom could care less what I do, all she cares about it my sister."
"Even though that's not true, I'll always have your back." Now it was Olivia's turn to reasure Harper.
"Thanks Liv, I appreciate it. I got your back too."
Both girls smile at eachother, as they make their way to their favorite diner."Do you have any money?" Harper asked.
"Yeah ten bucks, what about you?" Olivia asked.
"I got 5, looks like we got enough for a burger to share and a milkshake for each of us!"
They walked into the diner, it smelled as if they made every food imaginable in this place. "Harper let's go find a seat!"
They sat down at an old dirty table, the paint was peeling off.
"Hello girls!"
Olivia and Harper jumped at the sound of the grizzly voice.
"Sorry, didn't mean to scare y'all. Can I take your order?" The waitress's name tag read Susie in messy handwriting.
"It's alright Susie, we're just a little jumpy from watching that scary movie the other night."
Olivia and Harper laughed as they remebered how they clung to eachother. The waitress cleared her throat now getting impatient.
Noticing, Olivia nudged Harper and placed their order."We're just going to get a burger and two chocolate milshakes please."
As the waitress walked away, Olivia and Harper burst into laughter.
"I really don't want to know what the kitchen looks like," Harper blurted.
"Yeah, me neither," Olivia replied.
This just made the girls laugh even more.Susie, grumpy as ever, delivered their food. It was amazing. Then they walked to Harper's house.
"Did you see the look on Susie's face!" Harper laughed.
"Yeah, it was hilarious! She was like 'Excuse me girls can I get your order?'" Olivia laughed imatating Susie's deep grizzly voice and walking the same way Susie does when she's mad. Stomping and swinging her arms by her side.
They walked in the door and were laughing and talking about Susie the waitress when Harper's mom came in from the living room."HARPER MANDY ALIBO!!!" Harper's mom screamed.
"Oh, mom what are you doing home so early, you look really pretty tonight by the way," Harper tried to butter her up.
"You told me she wasn't going to be home!" Olivia whispered to Harper, obviously not quiet enough.
"Really Harper, again, you used to be my perfect angel, you always listened and never disobeyed me. What happened?" Her mom asked.
"Mom, why do you always say that? I know Lilly is your favorite but you don't have to rub it in my face. I may not be the most well behaved but what am I supposed to do about it? You can't do anything and neither could Dad!"
Harper ran off to her room and Olivia followed. After a moment of silence, Olivia said, "Harper, what's up? I have never heard you yell at your mom like that. Especially not about your dad."
"I don't know, she has just been treating me like I don't matter lately, everything is always about Lilly, Lilly, Lilly, Lilly! And I just miss my dad so much, but she obviously doesn't care about my feelings, so why act the way she wants me to."
"I know how you feel. I miss my older brother and it doesn't help with my parents always fighting."
As Harper heard her mom's desperate knocking on the door all she could hear was her mind screaming, DON'T OPEN IT, Don't open it... too late. It's open. Harper's mom walked up to Harper and gently sat on the bed, "Lilly is not my favorite sweetie she just has a lot on her plate that I need to help her with," Harper's mom explained some more, but Harper wasn't buying it.
"Don't try to cover up your lies, I know that your "grocery stops" are really either a spa day or a shopping spree you don't invite me to!"
"How did...." Harper's mom started.
"Mom, you, Lilly and I share a house! You guys realize that right? You don't think I wouldn't notice your brand new clothes or your nails painted the same?" Harper questioned sarcastically.
"Maybe I should just leave..." Olivia said.
"No! Look mom now you are scaring away my best friend, what more can you do to torture me! First, you drove dad away, and now doing everything without me!" Harper shrieked.
"I didn't drive your father away! And like I said Lilly just has a lot going on."
"I don't buy your excuses. Just leave!"
Harper opened the door for her mom pushed her out, slamming and locking the door behind her.
"Come on Olivia we are leaving," Harper whispered, furiously wiping tears from her dull blue eyes.
