V A N E S S A
In the movies you always see the rich girl, she's popular, captain of the cheerleading team, dating the quarterback, and running the school. If that were the case then I would be Genevieve Summers, captain of the cheerleading team and dating the quarterback, at least I think they're still dating. I'm the complete opposite. I don't do sports, I've never dated a boy, and I don't act like a rich girl even though i'm considered one.
I button my jean shirt and pull up my maroon leggings, brushing off some lint. I brush over the bumps in my hair leading up to my perfect donut bun. I pull my chestnut riding boots out from the closet and shove them onto my feet. I grab my car keys out of the bowl by the door and head to my car, already really late for school.
Just as I begin to pull out of the second garage I notice a figure running up the hill.
Hayes.
Hayes Grier is the quarterback, Genevieve's boyfriend. He looks distressed and half dressed. His sweatshirt zipped halfway, revealing his navy blue football jersey. His backpack is flung over one shoulder, half opened, and his hair is clearly uncombed yet he seems to make that look work.
I stop my car and roll down the window sticking my head out to see what's going on.
"Hey, Vanessa right?" he stops at the window.
"Yeah." I fake a smile, we haven't lived down the street from each other for most of our lives or anything. "Hey yeah, I missed my bus and was hoping I could catch a ride." he smiles.
"Yeah sure." I nod
You'd think the most popular kid in school would have his own car by junior year. I start down the giant hill my car rests on and pull out of Beacon Point. I reach for my coffee cup and grab air. I frown at the empty spot as I realize that I forgot my coffee cup in the kitchen.
As I stop at the light I spot a coffee shop drive thru ahead. "Do you want something?" I ask once we get to the window. "Nah you don't have to do that for me."
"It's no problem, come on pick something." I look out at the menu board
"Seriously it's fine." He looks up at me
I stick my head out the window to place my order. "Can I get two medium mocha iced coffees, extra extra."
"You really don't no for an answer." He smiles as I hand him one of the coffees
We're already really late for school so why not be a little later you know. We arrive at school at around 8:15, right in the middle of first period.
"Thanks for the ride." Hayes says as we enter the building
"No-"
"Hayes!" a voice sounds at the end of the hallway. Nico Tyler, you could say he is the second most popular boy in school. "Come on dude you're late for gym." He says and looks over at me "What're you doing with her?"
"What? Nothing." He rolls his eyes and jogs down the hall.
I should probably be offended and trust me I would be if I wasn't expecting that. I was though, no popular person is ever caught dead with me, well except my best friend, well my only friend. Claire Ronin and I grew up together and I promise you if we didn't, she wouldn't be my friend right now. She's co-captain of the cheerleading team and every guy is vying for her attention.
I try and stay awake during first period Environmental Science class but am awoken when the bell rings.
"Hey Ness, homecoming dress search tonight." Claire opens her locker next to mine
