I started mixing colours on my paint pallet. It's been a few days since Navia officially broke up with me and I was still shook. I didn't know if I was ever going to get over it. I've had trouble eating, sleeping and lacked creativity. She was always there for me, she made me so happy, so comfortable, and she's the only person I opened up about my dad to.
After painting the background, I left the brush in a cup of water and grabbed a thinner brush for smaller details. The door bust opened and I already knew it was my mom.
"You know, although what you did was wrong, and that you kind of deserve it, you can always talk to me baby." she said taking a seat on my computer chair.
"Thank you ma." I replied not really wanting to talk.
"But seriously Jaheem, you need to start acting like a brother."
I sighed and stopped painting. "I know, I'm sorry."
"I'm not the one you should be apologizing to."
I knew that. But even if I did apologized, it wouldn't change the fact that Maïa is a kid, I hate kids. But I had to fake it if I wanted my girlfriend back.
I looked down at my wrist to check the time on my ice watch, that Navia bought me for my birthday, and got up. I put my supplies away then faced my mom.
"I should get ready, I'm going out with Luca." I told her.
"Okay baby, stay out of trouble."
She got up and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I weakly smiled and nodded. She went out while I put the rest of my stuff away. I showered, dressed up, combed my hair. I looked at my reflection in the mirror. A small stud was growing on my chin; the breakup was aging me. But I still had my charming smile and well styled hair, shaved on the bottom half and braided back into a man-bun on the top.
I went back to my bedroom to grab my car keys and phone that was left on charge. I went downstairs while putting my watch back on. When I looked up I saw Maïa walking from the kitchen to the living room.
"Where you going big brother?" she asked.
"And don't even dare blame Maïa for our breakup because this is all your fault!"
I blinked realizing I zoned out a bit. I tried as much as possible to sound nice.
"To a party."
"Can you bring me back some cake?" she asked hopefully.
I forced a small smile. "Sure."
"Thank you!" she exclaimed and was about to come forwards for a hug but stopped and went back to the living room.
That was probably due to me shouting at her to never hug me, ever again, the first time she came home. I let my mom that I left then got in my car to pick Luca up.
__________
"Yo! Jaheem, it's been a while." Vicky greeted and we hugged.
"Yeah I know, what's been up with you?" I asked as we pulled away.
"Since you don't see me can I go enjoy the party?" Luca asked standing next to me with a raised eyebrow.
Vicky giggled before moving out of the way to let us in. "Sorry. Well I'll be around."
"Ite." we both replied.
That right there, was a n*gga in a dress. She may be curvy, has amazingly done makeup and professionally done nails, but she knows how to fight and she... ahem, she beats me in almost every video game I love. Which is why I don't play with her anymore.
The music was loud, people were dancing and chatting all over the place, a buffet was set up and some were smoking in the backyard. Vick always has lit parties.
"Come on man," Luca pulled me "we're at a party so let's get turn—Oh damn!"
He licked his lips before going after a red head in short shorts. I shook my head in amusement and laughed. I went to the buffet to get myself a drink. Although there wasn't enough alcohol in the drinks to get anyone drunk, I decided I was only taking one cup.
While Luca was out there flirting, I found some friends to chat with. I don't know who the DJ was, but his remixes were fire. I was vining, it was a nice change in scenery. After a few conversations, Luca joined us.
"So how'd it go with miss fire head?" I asked.
"She wasn't digging it. Imma just chill by you til the end of th—Damn!"
I followed his gaze to find a light skin chic twerking and dancing with her friends. I laughed then faced Luca who was about to open his mouth.
"Go." I said.
"Thanks bro." he said jumping off the couch.
I got up too to go get something to eat. I grabbed a plate from the stack on the buffet table. The only thing that caught my attention was a pizza box, that ended up being empty when I opened it. I sighed and looked around, there was no cake either.
"Hey, you straight?"
I turned and saw a curvy Hawaiian/Puerto Rican girl in an olive green two-piece. I smiled at Vicky and nodded my head.
"Yeah I'm cool."
She placed a new pizza box on the table. Thank God. A new song started playing and she grinned widely.
"This my sh*t! Come dance with me."
"But I'm hungry." I replied with a frown, nodding towards the pizza.
She laughed shaking her head and grabbed my arms. I dropped the plate and groaned. Vicky pulled me to the centre of the room between many dancing bodies and started dancing. It pierced a whole in my chest because the only girl I ever danced with was Navia. I pushed that thought away and danced along. I was here to have fun, not to mourn.
Vicky and I were moving in sync, she would twerk and move around to the beat which made me feel so good. We danced at least three songs together before taking a break. She handed me a cup before drinking from her own. I took the cup, ignoring that it was the cliche red plastic cup. She sat on my lap which alerted me at first, but I shrugged it off.
"Gimme your phone." she asked sticking her hand out.
"Why?" I asked.
"Man just do what I say." she playfully snapped.
I took my phone out my jean pocket and gave it to her. I drank from my second cup even though I told myself I would only drink one. Vicky grabbed my hand and placed my thumb on the home button, which unlocked my phone.
"You have Snapchat right?" she asked and I nodded.
She started snapping us with different filters to different songs playing. She posted most of it on my story which I didn't oppose to because I knew Navia would see it. Hopefully she would get jealous and talk to me.
I spent the rest of the party with Vicky (and sometimes Luca after he got rejected by a girl). We danced some more, I finally got my pizza, then we went back to talking. Vicky was still seated on me which didn't bother me to be honest. The music was loud but not to the point that it'd make you deaf, I ate well, danced around, the room wasn't overcrowded... I felt good.
"Yo Vicky, you got any cake?" I asked.
"Of course I do baby it's all in this a**." she joked, earning a small chuckle from me "But seriously I'm not sure. I think I have brownies though."
"Can I take two to go?"
"Do I look like McDonalds to you?" she then laughed "Just kidding, I'll go get 'em."
She slid off and went to her kitchen.
