Chapter 17 - She's Dead

Kim P. Alberts...

"I guess the stars are not really aligned for us," sabi ko at bumuntong-hininga. I thought everything would go easy after finding dad's treasure on his hideout and discovering the immunes.

"Magtiwala ka lang, maybe it's not the right time for them to shine on the skies for us, the right moment will come if we wait and persevere," positibong pahayag ni Noah.

"I wish," sagot ko at bumuntong hininga ulit. "But when's the right time? Ilang taon na tayong naghihirap, it seems endless. What if we are meant to suffer forever? "

"Don't stress over what-ifs, Samantha," sabi niya. Nanatili akong tahimik. "Let's not have a hopeless heart. I know somewhere, there's still a seed of hope. We just have to plant it. Lend me a hand."

Somehow, his positivity subtracted my anxiety.

"You can rest, ako na muna dito," sabi ni Noah. Napailing ako.

"Tita Blanche is coming."

"I can talk to her," sagot niya. "Don't stress yourself. Matulog ka't mamahinga."

"Noah plea--"

"Wala ka bang tiwala sa akin? Let me handle things, Samantha. I was the head and I know how the river flows," sagot niya sa akin. I still doubted, but somehow he managed to reassure me.

Nakatulog ako ng ilang saglit. It was the best minutes I had ever since I went here. The nap managed to take my stress away and reorganized my thoughts. I didn't know I badly needed a sleep until now.

Nang maimulat ko ang aking mata, I was relieved and at the same time, disappointed. I wish I could have fallen asleep for a few hours. Isang oras lang kasi ang naitulog ko. I sighed at nilibot ang swivel chair. It's time to face reality again.

"Pumunta na ba si Tita Blanche?" inaantok na sabi ko at kinusot pa ang aking mga mata. Nang lingunin ko si Noah ay parang nahulog ito sa malalim na pag-iisip. I had to throw a pen at his direction to wake him up.

"What the hell, Sam?" he cursed at me.

I repeated the question. He nodded.

"Miss Deina also went here, she informed me that Math's team will be using the laboratory this afternoon," dugtong niya na nagpataas ng kilay ko.

"Math's team?"

"Yes, you heard it right," sagot ni Noah. Napatango na lang ako. So he's going to conduct an experiment on his own. I have no rights to complain dahil ako naman ang tumanggi sa tulong niya.

"Anong pinag-usapan niyo ni Tita Blanche?" I asked. Inaantok pa rin ako and a cup of coffee or two won't wake me up.

"She asked about the dates, and I gave her the schedule you made," sagot niya. Napatango ako. "Medyo napahaba ang usapan namin, actually. Napunta pa sa sister niya."

"Sister? You mean si Tita Altecia?"

"Hindi, si Kathleen Davis ang ibig sabihin niya. She even showed me a picture," Noah answered. I suddenly wondered about her. If she is indeed Tita Blanche's sister then I bet she's as gorgeous as hell.

"Iyan lang ba ang pinag-usapan niyo?" tanong ko. He nodded.

"Actually, nasa akin ang picture ng kapatid niya. Do you want to take a look?" tanong niya. He did not wait for my answer and reached out for his wallet. I took the phone and answered.
