My name is Angela Yang. I am Chinese, American, and Muslim.
Through my mother's own conversion to Catholicism, my brothers and I were raised as Roman Catholics. We went to church on Sundays, read the Bible, and celebrated all the Liturgical holidays. As I grew older however, I was no longer required to attend church services, and slowly became slowly disillusioned with the idea of religion. As a high schooler, I found myself drawn to Islam through my friends, choosing to make and hang around Muslim friends. I guess it's true what they say; "Be with people who remind you of Allah." I learned more about the faith, and 3 years later converted at the awards ceremony of the DC Muslim Interscholastic Tournament I keep this part of my life hidden from my family and many non-muslim friends, but I have never looked back."
