The night’s sky was filled with thick clouds, obscuring the land in darkness. Within the sea of trees, a furred beast moved with purpose out into a clearing, making sure to stay hidden in the patches of bushes. On the edge of that clearing, two glowing yellow eyes looked out between shadowy leaves towards the figure in the grassy field, unknowingly backing up to the creature’s hiding place. The beast burst from its position, pouncing onto the clearing’s inhabitant in a single movement. The two tumbled shortly until they stopped, the predator holding down its prey.

“Gotcha”

The brown-furred timber wolf stepped off his victim, another wolf with a snowy-white pelt. The she-wolf rolled onto her front and got back up, shaking the dust off her fur.

“You don’t have to be so rough Duke, jeez…”

He stepped around to her side and nuzzled her cheek with a chuckle.

“I’m just trying to teach you to avoid those nasty hunters; you’d be nothing but a coat by now Luna”

She snaps at Duke’s muzzle with a snarl: “Oh hush! I knew you were there, somewhere…”

“Alright wolfie, you should get home to your father; you know how Alphas are. He already doesn’t like that I’m teaching you but if you got to the den late, well he might just suspect things-“

Luna nuzzles into his neck, then leans back and kisses Duke’s cheek.

“Totally worth it, but alright, I’m going”

She licks his nose causing both the wolves to blush before starting the journey to the nearby mountain, in which the dens were located. Once the she-wolf’s white tail disappeared into the foliage, the lone wolf looks up at the cloudy sky. It was tempting to howl out into the night, but such actions could draw any amount of unwanted attention. He would eventually follow after her to the mountain dens but the night was young~

“It can’t hurt to take a look…”

Every wolf knew it was forbidden to interact with humankind for various legitimate reasons, but it’s only illegal if you get caught. Duke padded off in the other direction towards a group of illuminated clouds which he knew would be above the nearby human settlement. It took a few minutes of casual running to reach the forest’s edge, thankfully with no interruptions from other animals. The brown wolf was hard to spot amongst the dark trees as he poked his head out of the tree line, but the darkness didn’t last-

As the beast surveyed the strange structures made of various materials, the area suddenly became brighter. Duke looked up into the once cloudy sky to see a full moon shining down on him, tinged with yellow in the night sky. A shiver ran from the top of his spine all the way down the tail tip as the wolf heart inside him suddenly beat magnitudes faster. Duke doubled over in sudden pain as his form started to twist and contort steadily, causing the beast to pass out in the moonlight.

His hind legs snapped backwards as the knees started to bend forwards, the whole leg growing bigger as the bones restructured. The rest of the wolf’s body followed suit as his figure grew in size and the fur seemingly retracted. Duke’s four paws lengthened and the digits spread further apart on his front two paws while his bushy tail sunk quickly into his rear, the bones evaporating from the fifth appendage.
