Cody's POV:
Spring training had just begun for baseball. It was quite nice seeing all my teammates again. This week we had practice everyday so far except for today. So, I took advantage of it and went to go visit my parents who lived in Arizona.
My dad ended up bringing me to a college softball game to watch one of his friend's daughter play.
We arrived at the field just in time for the game to start.
"Hey Clay!" My dad turned around to see a middle aged man sporting a UCLA shirt. "Just in time." The man laughed as he shook my dad's hand.
"Ah, it's good to see you again Mark." He turned to me and introduced me, "Cody, this is my old friend Mark Martinez. We used to play high school ball together."
"Hi, nice to meet you sir." I greeted as I stuck out my hand.
"Nice to meet you too, Cody. I've heard lots of great things about you ."
I smiled at him, "Oh thank you. So, how's the team doing so far?"
"Pretty good so far. But Arizona State is a tough team so, this game will be interesting to watch."
I nodded.
Mark asked a few questions about playing in the major leagues and that stuff then, went to catch up with my dad.
As they talked, I watched the shortstop for UCLA dive for a ball that was hit up the middle. The girl caught it, ending the inning. Damn. I thought to myself.
My dad pulled me out of my thoughts by tapping my shoulder, "That was his daughter who dove for that."
"Wow." I said a bit impressed.
The game finally came to an end with UCLA shutting out Arizona state 10-0. Mark's daughter played pretty well. She went 2 for 3 and fielded shortstop cleanly that day.
We waited a bit for his daughter to come out from their dugout by the entrance.
"So how old is your kid again?" My dad asked, shooting me a look.
I shook my head. My parents have been urging me to get a girlfriend. Considering I was the only one the team who didn't have significant other. I didn't mind too much. I still had plenty of time left.
"She's 22 and finishing up her last year of college." Mark answered.
"Wait, is she going to go pro after this?" I asked ignoring her age.
"Possibly, she was drafted by the USSSA Pride in the fall but, she hasn't given them a final answer."
"Dang. You got yourself a ballplayer here Mark." My dad said surprised.
Before I got to say anything, Mark's daughter came down.
"Hi dad." She greeted and hugged him.
"Hey honey, good game today."
"Thanks, who's this?"
"Lauren meet my old high school teammate, Clay Bellinger."
"Oh hello, thank you for coming to watch." The girl smiled as she stuck out her hand.
"No, thank your dad for inviting us to watch. It was really fun watching your game."
"Oh," she laughed, "It was quite fun playing it."
My dad chuckled as he introduced me, "Lauren, this is my son Cody."
"Hi, nice to meet you." She said genuinely as she shook my hand.
"That was a pretty sick catch you made earlier in the game." I commented.
"Thanks." Her cheeks turned a slight shade of pink.
"Lauren!" One of her teammates called out.
"I got to go, sorry. It was nice meeting you guys." Lauren said shaking our hands one more time. "I'll meet you at the hotel later dad."
"Ok bye sweetie! Love you!" Mark called out.
"Love you too!" She yelled back as she started walking back to the bus.
Before we left, Mark invited us to dinner with his family after he was gonna pick up Lauren. My dad happily accepted and told him we were going to pick up my mom and siblings beforehand.
