Passing through the halls, I recalled a single moment that happened while I was 12. It was Sunday afternoon; the sky was painted with clouds and the wind was whispering sweet melodies. I sat under a bench swing and sipped refreshing orange juice.

A friend of mine sat down next to me and stared up. I had asked him what he was doing. He said that he was watching the clouds move. I laughed at that notion. What was so interesting about that? "You can't watch clouds, they hardly move," I said. He told me to focus on a single cloud, one that was close by. I did and concentrated really hard. Wisps of cotten candy t hovered above, moving at a rate I didn't know it could. In just ten minutes it had disapeared, leaving an almost transparent trail.

From that day forward, I always spent my free time transfixed on those fluffly clouds. Later on, I was determined to chase them but I could never catch up. For every step I made, the clouds advanced five times faster. After a while I gave up.

Now here I am, a senior at Michigan High trying aimlessly to get into Julliard Dance School. I shuffled through the halls and reached for my locker. "Hey!" a perky voice called out. Not even bothering to recognize the person, I stuffed my textbooks into the top shelf. "You wanna go hit the mall? Heard there's this awesome sale at H&M!" my friend Elise exclaimed. Meet Elise, a girl who can never go a week without shopping. "Not right now, Elise. You know I need to work on my applications," I replied tiredley. She pouted but didn't push further. She knows how much this means to me. "Okay, maybe next time," she sighs and walks away. I feel like a horrible friend but, what can I do?
