------------------------------------------------------------- It was just another basic boring day in a basic eighth grade classroom. The Hawaii heat was causing all of us to perspire. My school, Ilima Intermediate, couldn't afford air conditioning for all of the classrooms. During class, I barely pay attention. I just watched the clock waiting for the bell to ring, which explains why I have C's and D's in my classes. Every time I looked around, I caught someone staring at me. I was the new girl. I mean I've been here for 6 days already but they still haven't got over gawking at me. I was born here, stayed here for eight years, left to stay at American Samoa for four years, and then I came back here. All of a sudden the bell rang and interrupted my thoughts. Thank God, it's lunch. I have already made a lot of friends thanks to my cousin Nesa, she's the best. But today they weren't at our usual hangout place, so I decided to go on my own. I just wandered around checking out the large school. I ended up in the bad part of the school where the weirdos hung out. I decide to take a left hoping I would end up back at the cafeteria, but it was the opposite. I came to another long hallway filled with high-looking teenage boys. I tried to back out slowly but I bumped into someone. I turned around terrified, hoping it was a teacher. But luck did not want to play in my favor. It was another high school druggie. He was bigger than me, he could have been 6 foot 1" and I was 5 foot 9". He opened his mouth slowly and said,"Ooohhh! Look guys, it's an innocent eighth grader. I wish I still had my innocence," he sighed,"Oh well. It doesn't mean that I can't take the innocence of someone else." He tried to grab at me but I dodged his advances and ran without any sense of direction. From the back of me, I could hear maniacal laughter and fast footsteps. I saw my period one classroom door open so I ran in. My teacher was too busy microwaving his lunch to notice me come in. A couple of other students were staring at me with confusion on their faces, but I was too terrified to care. When I peeked out door I saw the high schoolers looking around confused. The one who grabbed at me threw his hands up with frustration. They retreated back to their hangout. I was breathing really hard, I turned to find one of my friends there with a concerned look on her face. "Are you okay," she asked. And I told her the opposite of what I was actually feeling. "I'm fine, thanks," I replied. She nodded and sat back down. She motioned for me to come sit next to her but I told her that I had to leave. I needed to get out of there before I puked all over her.
